What’s so damn funny @Jimmy Hypocracy ? Oh yeah that’s right your laughing at me being on the failboat of shame with You JC and grumpycat ☹ what a disaster
I’m laughing at all of the pain in here. Including my own. It’s really pretty sad considering how rare this airmass is and we got none of it. Its literally everywhere but here. And we have the precip but the cold air is stuck on the other side of the mountains and we’re blanketed by a stout ridge. This is the new norm Fro. Embrace it.

It’s been the new norm unfortunately, it’s just slowly getting worse and worse ☹️ the good ol days are over

To be fair north of 85 did get there typical 1-3 inch event. I was pretty satisfied with my 3 snow trips this winter. But it’s really ashamed we can’t get a big southeast storm anymore.

I’m not really a fan or buy into global warming very much. But Is Global warming the reason our winters in the southeast is getting worse?

We’ll time one up again one of these days. That’s really the only way we can still score. Obviously a -NAO doesn’t help as much as we thought. Timing is the most important factor in the Carolinas. That and the latitude the SW enters the states. That’s really all that matters imo.

Yeah it just sucks because without mega blocking, our storms are so prone to a NW trend, can we get a 2014-2015 pacific for once ? fuckckckkckckc

That seems like an easy cop out. We’re just in a ------ winter cycle right now. I mean look at the latitudes with much worse climo than us getting snow in the single digits right now. Wind chills below zero. Lol. It can and will happen again and again.

Idk , Dallas apparently has had more extreme cold than us in Raleigh overall . They are further south too! Nearly 300 hours below freezing once. Nuts , anywhere west of the mountains will always be better in winter for cold . Nashville is 500 feet lower than the triad but still colder in winter with far colder records . Heck Nashville is as warm as Asheville in the winter and Asheville is 2k feet up in the mountains . I like Nashville’s climate .

You and @Dewpoint Dan should do a collaboration

We’re going to have a string of winters where troughs dig down through eastern Canada into the eastern US without having to first bleed into the plains and modify before getting here. It’s been a while since we’ve really seen this but it will happen again and we will be like “damn. That was easy.”

Yeah but troughs digging down eastern Canada don’t pack the same punch ones digging down west of the mountains do . I think it was 2017, or maybe 2019? Where one dug down , DC was nearly subzero but very tight gradient south of there with teens by the time you were in Raleigh. You need troughs to come down the GL for the deepest cold , similar to 1985 . 1936 another example if I got my year correct , all time record lows from dc north but single digits and teens in nc and sc versus -15 and colder in places like nyc.

Well, you see how big of a punch this one that entered the plains is packing for us..womp

Indeed we likely will. Regardless of whether or not you believe in GW favorable will still be favorable

It dug too far west , remember the model runs that brought us cold had it digging down from Minnesota then southeast into the gl and Ohio valley. Ones that dig in eastern Canada leave us on the back side , eastern Canada is further east than us . It does well for eastern nc sometimes , and creates situations where Hatteras has colder days than us.

Hell yes, Storm5 is here and he’s here to stay. I put extra salt on my dinner tonight.

The NAM never wavered. It was right from the start, outside of the track.

You know that when you don’t get “NAMMED”, that you are ------

Timing. Pacific has to cooperate to an extent but a 1090 HP would do us any good if it weren’t in the right spot. I want to see the Great Lakes frozen over with a trough diving in right over top.
