Most likely, assuming it has something like a 90% effectiveness rate, which is why it’s important to vaccinate these groups first. A young, healthy person in his 20s like myself should probably be about the last person to get it (from a public health perspective). The main benefit of someone like me getting it is just not to spread it to others, since my chances of dying from it are hardly statistically different than 0 and even the chances of long term complications are quite low.

They will likely mandate children have it before going to school since that is easy to enforce. They don't get the virus often but people are used to giving in to the immunization requirements.

I have feeling there will suddenly be alot more kids homeschooling too. Way too many people skeptical about this vaccine including me

When trump claimed a vaccine BEFORE election day it was celebrated......we knew one was close and trump tried to tout that. Now it's a few days later and everyone acts like this was some new breaking detail.

Well, technically what you said is not saying covid rose BECAUSE OF the increased mask usage. They've gone up together but covid didn't increase due to increased mask usage. Mask usage likely up due to increased covid.

Sure seems that way, more people than ever wearing mask and numbers reaching record highs but how dare you come in here and question the mask.

Right i never said covid rose because of mask usage. I was just asking if covid cases increased at the same time while more people are wearing masks.

I have noticed that mask usage in the stores is higher than ever. However, in work places it is almost non existent.

Obviously, there were no masks in January and no covid-19. The more people that wear masks the faster it spreads. I think it's safe to say we need to stop wearing masks and go back to normal and it will just go away.

2. Does anyone really think that increased mask usage hasn't resulted in a reduced rate of increase in Covid cases vs what would have happened without the increase in mask usage?

If yes to either, please provide evidence.

I don't know what or who to believe to be honest. I'm skeptical of everything and everybody.

Depends on the work places I suppose. That's the one place I see 100% usage because it's mandated at work.

I think it will be hard to provide evidence for either because neither is the answer. Personally my thoughts are whatever benefits masking provides is lost to the fact that the mask provides a “safety” factor which leads to longer contact times and less social distancing. This is exactly what the WHO feared about masking in years past.

False sense of security, we've seen comments on this board when the protest and riot crowds are mentioned, that say "but most were wearing their mask" as justification.

Saw the dumbest thing yesterday. I stopped at a speedway to get a drink. A truck full of construction guys(4) get out with cig smoke rolling and go inside maskless. I kid you not they wait for each other to go to the fountain drink machine 1 at a time so they can socially distance from each other.......after riding in a truck maskless.

Yeah. What we did then with far fewer cases is what we should be doing now but we blew the shot by going into that too early. Its Monday morning QBing though. We had very few details and a lot less knowledge then than we do now.

What we need is OTC quick testing kits. We need to do what China does. If they can't test a city of 11 million in a week and quarantine the sick people to prevent spread why cant we?

To me rapid and widespread testing on massive scales is our best chance going forward.
