Tropical Hurricane Sally Inland Effects

I still think two locally higher areas...one near Wilmington NC due to heavy convection rain since yesterday moving in from the Atlantic...and another west of Charlotte into SC where totals could be 4-6”. And between those areas I think less around Charlotte near 2”.

Looks like the dry slot I mentioned earlier is gonna be a focus point for the tornado watch out now for South Carolina and points East

Most of the heavy storms moving in from the Atlantic near Wilmington NC could shunt the tornado threat south to the Myrtle Beach SC area...where most of the SC coast is clearing out of the rain..could be prime for tornadoes this afternoon?

Roughly all of i95 South Carolina and points East to the ocean are clearing out ahead of this new tornado watch

Wouldn't be surprised to see the current watch in SC expanded north as the coastal front slowly progresses inland this afternoon. HRRR has KFAY at 80/77 later this aftn

SPC says strong tornadoes poss..and could come inland offshore NC beach areas. But for right now, this is largely South Carolina event unless the front gets a move on...

It’s a race against time as ex Sally is moving faster now. Red zone is favored imo but orange is poss should front eek it’s way inland last minute over south/eastern NC. 9A0504D7-3262-4FE8-B969-005908834927.jpeg

It'll be interesting to see this afternoon if the remnants of Sally pull more bodily north like the models indicate giving the eastern Carolinas more sun

1.90 here in rain so far. And it’s almost over with. I doubt my area reaches 3 inches.

I think we will have to get some clearing here for any storms to happen. We usually don't do well getting storms when it's been raining and overcast all morning.

You could honestly extend that to Wilkes because this is just drizzle and at times very light rain.

Columbia SC is almost in the clear with the dry slot I bet if anything happens it will be just east of there. The storms coming inland over NC look very healthy I wonder if this sneaks up into the OBX with flooding and severe.

I'd just like everyone to know that last night CJ showed a model that had 0.5 in Clemson and 0.8 here. Clemson has received 4-6" and we have topped 2" here

I have friends in Charlotte saying it’s not that heavy but it is raining. The radar isn’t doing to well or something. I was expecting sheets of rain near the main band but doesn’t look like that’s the case.

Glenn just posted this map and is getting crucified for it in the comments, no way is this accurate.

My house has over 5 inches right now and I am right around the 3.2 on the map.

I think something to remember is that these are radar estimate totals and with tropical systems these are going to underestimate the true intensity of the rain.

Agreed, and I noticed other sites were off too. So he either posted this map to justify his forecast, or he isn't looking at the ground observations. We all know there is no way he is ignoring observations, so the prior is probably true.

NHC says 10” poss over south/eastern Virginia. Says threat has shifted due to faster speed. I think all of coastal NC is doing very well too with way more to come that way given their precip rates are nearly double compared to here.

Whoa all of the sudden got a 25-30+ mph gust. Definitely an underperformer so far for rain, 2.22"

You are going to win again. Sitting at 5.12. Still having some drizzle showers but shouldn’t add up to much.
Yeah the system really got elongated and started to decouple faster than expected, it also took on a more ET look. This cut into the rain totals across your area into the upstate where the moist feed got cut off. If the circulation were still more cohesive and tropical it would probably still be dumping there

Was near that tornado warned storm earlier close Lakewood SC but it was completely wrapped in rain, I’ve never really chased rain wrapped stuff before, add the low clouds to boot, so I just abandoned it, back home and for some reason don’t feel well but may go back out to ENC later
