July Surprise!

Spending as much of the summer in Highlands, NC as I can...with COVID -19 allowing remote work, I’ve been able to skip out of most of the heat...58 this morning at the house but it did touch 80 today (first time this year) briefly before a nice T-storm cooled it to the mid 60’s...it’s a heat wave here too...just different ?.

I've heard the winter snows there suck though, compared to places like Boone, Blowing Rock.. even though it's at a slightly higher elevation.

HI still in the 90s at 10pm. Nothing exciting about that at all.

Sensor malfunction maybe? Its now 3 degrees warmer than an hour ago? I'm about a mile east of PGV at work right now and it doesnt feel like the temp is going up outside.

That general area is beautiful and kind of underrated, really hoping that we don't shut down before early August because I'm going to try to come to the general area then for a couple days. Last time was at a vacation home in Cashiers (or maybe Cullowhee, I don't remember for sure) 11 years ago, this time we'll be staying in Sapphire.

To make this weather related, I've noticed recently that there's definitely a difference between the woods of what I'd call SW NC and Asheville in the temp predictions. I know elevation plays, but I'm guessing that Cashiers/Cullowhee/Sapphire being in the woods also does. Hopefully the heatwave in la la land goes away, because if it's as hot as the GFS has been suggesting early on, going in the SW NC woods is going to do nothing lol.

It may suck compared to those places but it's still way more than I ever see I'm sure

Well since everyone is counting down to winter and days are getting shorter ! I am doing opposite , I am counting the days till it’s next summer and the days get longer again! First week of December sunsets start getting later ! Every day passed puts us one day closer to next summer!

I don't want to jinx it but I feel like SPC is kinda downplaying today's threat. No, it's not going to be full-grown, smack the south MCS, but I think a lot of us at least stand a chance of seeing something.

Looks like the place to be is just off of the mountains and over the southern piedmont today. Everyone else is going to be very lucky to see anything.

It was 80 by 8ish in the morning. Right now it's 91/74. Surprisingly, I don't feel bad though (but I haven't been outside yet).

Just dragging along (besides a few things I'm most likely just counting off the days right now to when I can head to the woods in WNC). Really would like some storms with these kind of conditions. I think our last rain happened to be from what became Fay.

Idk about that most of NC is solidly in the marginal risk today. I think we all stand a chance to see something.
