ThanksCapping inversion, which can inhibit convection.
That said, it's not a strong cap and the forcing from the upcoming front is overcoming it.
what does cap mean?

This is good right? You'll see it on soundings as CINH (convective inhibition).

If I recall Brainerd and East Brainerd is a highly populated area with alot of Village style homesListening to Chattanooga scanner. Sounds very bad just to the east of the city from the earlier tornado emergency.
tweet from TV personality and also power outages

Is the cap gone now?Looks like Cartersville is about to get hit head-on.
Is the cap gone now?
Went just north of me but the sirens never went off county wide. Reports say a few trees down in cartersville so hopefully that’s it. It’s sounds awful out there.Take cover my friend
Chattanooga had a worst case scenario. Major hit to very very populated area. Had to go check on my house. (Luckily okay) but lots of damage and houses destroyed
How close is the hit area to the area that got hit by that monster tornado several years ago around Apison Pike?...
Ya, it isn't pretty. Literal army of first responders swarming the area. To put into perspective, Gunbarrel Rd from East Brainerd Rd to Commons Blvd has zero power, aside from the backup generators at Erlanger East. Completely dark.
