This storm is a perfect example of how little we know. Who knew a lack of moisture and or lulls would matter over temps for north-west NC? Ended up with half inch of snow mixed with a little sleet at the onset. Still snowing lightly. I think anyone from the north-west corner of the state can say moisture mattered more than temps. I am calling a HUGE bust for an ice storm in some areas. Others may still see some iso lift this morning for a glaze don’t get me wrong...

The SPC still doesn’t get it with their new meso discussion. For Virginia it’s going to be about moisture too. Not the sleet taking over as the main moisture exits. Not the extreme warming taking place over the southern Apps. There is a lack of consistent heavy moisture. Heavy icing will likely not occur there either. I wish they or the NWS will just say as the main batch of moisture exits its over and will transition to non-snow due to lack of moisture/rates.

RGEM freezing maps leading up to the storm may be the biggest fail in years. In all areas. From NC to WV. Over 1” of ice and nada. Predicted Widespread coverage and now it’s looks like the escarpment areas only lol.

NAM did bad aswell, hrrr actually got lucky with its warm/mixing bias altho it still did bad Aswell, sure rgem showed ice but it had the fronto band/ early overrunning precip in the right areas

Some of these tools we have access to are misused every winter. I think the in-house model ice output Brad Panovich has outdoes those RGEM maps 90% of the time. Nothing is perfect but might as well use what works better more consistently next time.

Did u see or hear of any snow or sleet up your way? @metwannabe

Didn't see anything on social media, mPING, etc.
Well I'm ashamed to say but I missed it as it was happening but I just looked out and the cars, deck, rooftop to my shed all white and looks like mostly sleet. Had to be some snow mixed in though, definitely a solid dusting here.

32-33 degree rain on my way in to work in Greensboro this morning. Slushy sidewalks. Just missed that two hour delay.
