Pattern August Rush

Severe thunderstorm warning just issued for this area! Humdinger of a thunderstorm starting here now. Winds quite gusty. Most of August had been pretty quiet totally unlike the last half of July.

Edit/correction: Someone else had told me severe, but it actually is a strong thunderstorm SWS. Regardless, effects similar.

Storm coming this way. Just got a special weather statement.

Looks like a big milk dud. Almost everything north of Durham. Roxboro special

Edit: one small cell moving due east, south of Siler City
Shortwave is just now approaching and ml capes are around 2000 I would expect an increase in coverage and intensity for an hour or 2 before nocturnal stabilization wins and everything congeals into a mass of stratiform rain

Early taste of fall is coming in Wednesday through the rest of the week. Best place to be is boone. High of 70-72 and lows 48-51. Dewpoints near 50. Pretty good little front coming through late Tuesday, should set off some nice fireworks for you severe buffs.

Yeah SD, things went boom in a hurry. Heavy stuff still north of Wake Forest. Decent stuff to the West. Radar filling in pretty quickly. Roxboro is under a flash flood warning. Over 5 inches of rain. They always get the good stuff:(

Matthew East bringing his talents to the CLT area now!! A big loss for the RDU weather crowd!

Another good round of storms last night. The streak continues. This summer reminds me more of the summers we had here in the 80s, when there was a good chance of storms every day. Looks like another decent shot today. Clouds are starting to break and the sun is out. Might be enough to destabilize things again for storms later on.

That map will send JB back on his "worst of summer is past" comment he made a month ago I'm sure! This was coming and I was sure of it because you can't have a completely cool period without having AN temps towards fall's start. (BTW fall officially begins in 2 days and a month per calendar)
Amen, brother ... good to see someone else reads between the lines ... ;)

In terms of US population weighted cooling degree days, 8/24-30/18 is flirting with being the warmest Aug. 24-30 since at least 1950! The hottest on record back to 1950 is 1993 followed by 1983. It is looking to be warmer than the 30 year normal for the warmest week of the summer in late July though it isn't going to be warmer than this summer's warmest week, which was very hot.

So, we're not out of the 98-100 woods yet... :(

I'm leaning against that for Nashville as of now since the hottest relative to normal is progged to be from the Ohio river northward.

Morning thunderstorms tomorrow should add tons of rain to the ole rain bucket! They always workout, just like clipper snow for SC!:D

weather.com shows highs in the upper 80s here next week, not nearly as hot as those maps make it seem. Upper 80s isn't bad at all. It is August after all !

Nice loud storm right now. Pouring rain 1.2 since midnight

That is because it is an "probability above average" chart. It could have the whole US in the darkest red and only be a degree above average.
