Winter mix Sunday dec 20th

RGEM for tonight looks to be significantly colder at the surface than the NAM or any other model. That cold air sticks around as precip sets in. But I guess RGEM doesn't have heavy enough precipitation to generate a strong isothermal layer like the 3km NAM?

These surface temps are a known bias, right?

Yeah the RGEM surface temps are way too cold and its depiction of the low-level profile is lol.

I decided to wait until tomorrow to go back to Greensboro. So GSO will probably get a miracle coating in the morning while it rains here in Durham.

Based on radar, precip already snow over WNC, temps, this is gonna over perform imo. Surprise coatings in a lot of areas. Jackpot 1-3” not only in Watauga/Ashe but maybe off the MTN too...just don’t know where yet

Close.

Best guess precip type says snow bottom right. Fingers crossed for you
I have never seen that best guess precip type before. How accurate is that?

do not call 911 for storm reporting
One of my favorite quotes by @Rain Cold
A friendly reminder to everyone: With an impending late-season winter storm, there will likely be an elevated level of excitement and anticipation as the event draws near. Some may even experience an increase in heart rate, sweaty palms, and also blurred vision, making it difficult to accurately examine both the content and intensity of the precipitation that may soon be falling. Whether you see any snowflakes or just think that you do, please -- PLEASE -- resist the urge to call 911. This channel should be used for actual emergencies. We do not want to tie up resources with road reports, snowflake size, or storm bust laments. Thank you for your cooperation.
