Reportedly, he will recognize the independence of Donbas and Luhansk. We’ll see soon.

Hopefully, some of the other stuff I've been seeing turns out to be false, but I'd say there's a 90% chance that this is imminent.

It sucks for anyone there that doesn't want it.

If Putin completes this, any talk of bringing people back to diplomacy via the Minsk Agreements is dead. Whether or not Russia takes another step and "annexes" those territories, they have officially broken any reason to adhere to a ceasefire. It is a declaration of war, as if 8 years of combat was not clear enough.

Then the question becomes does he declare the Ukrainian forces now in this newly independant pro-russian territory an occupying force and use that as a means to send in troops?

He will now use this to go in

If this true that he is recognizing them as independant then Ukraine should get immediate entry into NATO. Putin can't demand the west stay out of eastern Europe while he expands west. His actions are the very reason Ukraine needs to join NATO.

This is quite the speech. Seems to be using history to justify Russia controlling all of Ukraine, stating it was “created by Russia.” We’ll see where it goes. I thought it’d be short and to the point about recognizing the breakaway provinces, instead he’s evoking Lenin’s name and all kinds of other stuff. Basically, the implication seems to be Ukraine has no right to exist.

The information games that the US has been playing here may have a lot of truth behind them then (including the stuff that was said yesterday about there being a "list of Ukrainian people to kill" or put in camps I believe).

Yikes.

“We have every reason to say it’s Bolsheviks and Vladimir Lenin that created Ukraine.” --Putin.
