Confirmed, some component may work through the Chernobyl exclusion zone. River ice and permafrost is visible in those images, river was frozen in January. Highly complex terrain in so many ways, absent a mechanized army.

If Russia goes in it would be at night I suspect....in the end I still just cant see Putin willing to take the hit sanction wise from actually invading, not to mention the thousands of troops that will die. This is not some well trained army fighting rag tag poorly equipped units or insurgents. The Ukraine military has top line equipment and well fortified and dug in positions. The real issue is the eastern third of the Ukraine is currently a war zone where its essentially civil war between pro Ukraine and pro Russian/Independent...

The intel the US is giving the Ukrainians is real time and they will know the second the first foot crosses the border if they go....the Brits just gave them a bunch of high end anti ship missiles to counter the Black Sea Russian fleet....the Ukraine army has a few thousand modern main battle tanks, top line rocket and missile systems etc....Just last month the US sent 300 Javelin anti tank missiles etc. The Ukrainian army will have their artillery and anti air locked and loaded and the second the Russians come across the border they are gonna get smashed up its not going to be them just riding in and taking over.

Update on the cyber attack from Defence of Ukraine twitter account

!! ️ Updated information about kíberatak on the mou website!! ❤️
The official web portal of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has suffered an unprecedented DoS attack, which is still ongoing. The attack is aimed at the maximum load of server powers on which the site works. The
The attackers probably knew the site was protected from classic DDoS attacks, so they managed to find vulnerable locations in the site code itself. We can note that they, unfortunately, managed to do it. The
? Our specialists, supporting all entities involved in cybersecurity, carried out additional security settings and separate technical work for restoring the regular functioning of the web portal. The
We were also immediately offered support to US partners, providing technical consultations and additional security services, which once again confirm political agreements for cybersecurity cooperation reached back in November and in 2021. The
Before resuming the site, our specialists found out the reasons for its functioning breach, coordinated their actions with the NCCC RNBO, SBU, State Special Union, as well as with specialists of other structures who also suffered attacks. We have an understanding of the nature of the attack: the invaders did not break anything, did not try to download the channel or stop the provider, but sent many specific requests to the site to overload the available server capacity with the excess ears with the fuckery. The
Our experts, understanding that the site could not only be subjected to other similar DoS attacks, but also DDoS attacks, have directed all site traffic through an additional security service located in the United States ??
It is due to the need for global access infrastructure updates, the Ministry of Defense website may seem unavailable for some time, but after a final DNS server update, it will be functioning steadily. The
Such a cyber attack on the website of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine gave us the opportunity to strengthen the cyberzahist site and improve close cooperation both with foreign partners and between colleagues from different Ukrainian agencies. The
The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has no excessive tragism, but it is keenly aware that the attacks will continue and will sometimes lead to a temporary violation of its work, at least until the website is professionally updated. The
Actually, the website software update is scheduled and will take place as planned.

Folks Weather * Armor* just don't Give A Cuck, (right now).. Having been a former (194th Armorer Div.. ).. Mech infantry..

We have a serious and brooding problem in the United States, and its of our own making as citizens.

In short citizenship in any nation is not a spectator sport. Nor are ethics and, for those who care to ascribe to a higher power, morals.

The Ukraine situation is complex, and most international policy issues wind up there because nations try to shave the corners on their agreements. We're no different than anyone else. In 1994 we signed the Budapest Memorandum in which we committed to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. Russia signed it as well. But that agreement was broken -- by Ukraine itself when they threatened to cut off a key Russian 12-month deep-water port, a critical naval asset. We could no more expect Russia to sit for that than we would be expected to sit for San Diego and Newport News being encompassed in a seceding set of States in the US.

But let's cut the crap on any claim that we did not "interfere"; we most-certainly did. Indeed John McCain, a sitting US Senator, traveled to the Ukraine during Maiden Square and he met with the opposition leaders, including appearing on stage during a rally! It didn't end there; Obama's administration actively worked with the opposition to agree on successors to the elected Ukraine government, essentially attempting to install a US-chosen government.

Oh, by the way, the name of one of the people to do said leading?

Then Vice-President Biden.

These are just the publicly-admitted facts. But they're enough, standing alone, aren't they? We don't have to get into black-bag stuff to find plenty that Putin would deem unacceptable and perhaps worth going to war over. A United States hand-picked successor government with the process of overthrow cheered on and assisted by sitting United States Senators and other members of the current administration at the time, including the sitting vice-President which then winds up with effective control over Russia's critical deep-water 12 month naval port.

I presume we'd all have a serious problem -- maybe serious enough to threaten or even start a war if Russia egged on the secession of California from the United States, including a Federation Council member coming to the US and taking part in the demonstrations that led to said secession -- and Putin's right hand man was being put up as someone who would effectively run what was formerly California which, of course, also encompasses San Diego and its naval facilities which would no longer be part of the United States.

Oh, what office does Biden hold today?

Uh, yeah, that could be a problem.

Private citizens have every right to express whatever opinion they'd like when it comes to the matters of other sovereign nations. But official government actors taking such positions and active involvement, when it occurs, puts a great big United States flag and formal government approval on said events. They are taken under color of law and authority of the United States Government and are not the opinions and simple speech of private parties which, at least in the US, we have a right to hold and express under our First Amendment.

Tell me again why Putin should not consider Biden a direct adversary or even a warlord when there was a clean attempt by the Obama Administration to effectively put him in charge of Ukraine in a "director" sort of role.

Did we have a reason to get involved over there in the first place? While many say yes, I disagree. There's a serious disconnect within the people of Ukraine to begin with; a large percentage of them consider themselves Russian and a large percentage consider themselves Ukrainian. Common heritage, yes to a large degree but effectively two people trying to figure out how to make it work in a nation that is one of the poorest in the former Soviet Union block; the entire Ukraine GDP is about $112 billion US a year, or roughly equivalent to that of Cuba yet due to their population difference the average person there is only about a third as well off as an average Cuban, putting them roughly on par with a Palestinian, Honduran or Philippine citizen and not far ahead of India.

Russia, may I remind you, has a per-capital GDP of roughly four times that of the Ukraine but about one-sixth that of the US.

Does Putin have reason to not believe anything that comes out our administration's mouth, especially that of our present President given his direct actions during Obama's Presidency, never mind the apparent and well-reported shenanigans of his son?

You bet he does and we, as American citizens, are directly responsible for allowing this clown show to take place and whatever outcome may occur by elevating Biden and his family to the White House after what he was directly involved in during Obama's Presidency.

Interesting comments from the Kremlin today:

This is probably the real intentions here, these two regions of the Ukraine are trying to form independent pro Russian countries...Ukraine has been fighting pro Russia separatist there for years now actually.....this is nothing new. Russia has been in a proxy war with Ukraine since 2014ish. I could see Putin sending troops in claiming they were invited by the pro Russia separatist, the exact same thing happened more or less in Crimea. Ukraine has made it known however that they consider these regions part of Ukraine and any movement into them as a invasion of Ukraine. If Russia can occupy them and help them leave the Ukraine it would give them as buffer between a NATO Ukraine and the western Russia border.

Putin’s perspective . It’s already been said but truthfully we are the aggressors in this . We tested the Russians resolve as much as we could and Ukraine is where they are drawing their line in the sand . Sucks for the Ukrainian people caught in the middle of 2 feuding powers. Of course Russia also does have its own expansionist history so naturally it’s border countries want to get protection from NATO. So in a way history lead to NATO being able to easily expand .

Putin’s perspective .

Apples to oranges. We don't have the tensions with our neighbors that Russia does. We don't have our "Georgia" or "Crimea". Much of what the US has done in the last decade or so, such as building an Aegis Ashore Missile Defense System in Deveselu, has been at the request of NATO due to Russia's aggression with it's neighbors. So while I'd like to empathize with his analogy, it makes it hard when they choose to strongarm their much weaker neighbors into abandoning Western ideology and alliances that would greatly benefit countries such as Ukraine.

Yeah. That’s what I saying at the end . Russia kind of forced its neighbors to seek other help.

It is the same story throughout modern history. Russia is like the weird kid at the end of the street that nobody wants to play with. He's always on the outskirts, pushed away at arms length. When he finally gets something all the other kids want, they basically demand that he gives it up or shares it with them. Russia is sandwiched between the "cool" kids of western Europe and the freakishly cold and inhospitable wasteland of Siberia. They have coveted gas and oil reserves, though, so the cool kids want them to share. Unfortunately, Russia has a cruel history with communism and authoritarianism so they can't be trusted.

But it appears that the West has become untrustworthy as well. We need to honor our commitments, if what he says is true.

The border states don't need to be a part of NATO. I would scrap NATO anyway. Germany is already very compromised and will probably break from NATO if a war with Russia ensues. France is very much authoritarian and their values are not shared with us, their government anyway.

He did say "offensive" weapons, not defensive ones.

Conjecture and political speak. Of course he wants to paint the US as the aggressor. Russia seems hellbent on coming to their own conclusions as to what is "offensive" in order to justify their actions. Case in point, Ukraine in negotiations with NATO justifies moving an invasion worthy force to Ukraine's border. If they weren't so intent on picking on their neighbors maybe their neighbors wouldn't be seeking US help.

IMO, all about the narrative being spun to Russian population as part of Putin’s chess game. If he chooses an aggressive path, will benefit from more public support.

Absolutely. He needs public support and what better way than propaganda. Look I am not naïve enough to think that the US and/or Europe isn't playing the same game with their public, but at the end of the day Eastern European nations along with NATO asked the US to build a missile defense net for a reason, which is how we ended up with AEGIS missile defense systems in Poland and Romania. The same systems the U.S. Navy uses onboard their ships, they essentially built a ship bridge complete with mast, on land.

Need those field hospitals for “training exercises”, right? ?
I'm not trying to seem sarcastic and dismissive with this comment: but Mash units do need training too. The US often trains in these mini versions of a full run up. How else will you learn is your doctrine / plan / SOP work or don't work. What strain points will you have, etc etc. However, we do these in Eastern Washington, Louisiana, in the US now as to not cause alarm or suspicion.

Russia is playing a very deliberate game right now. The difference between what we do and what he's doing is that Putin is just doing this RIIIGHT on the border to make us flinch, just to see if he can. And he did. Remember, We USED to do these in West Germany and back in the 50s, 60's, and 70s to spook and prod the Russians. Hell, We STILL do this in S. Korea just to flex on N. Korea.

I don't think the US is some big bully, or Russia innocent. It's a game. Russia is puffing it's chest to remind everyone they are still a major player on the field.

Russia reminds me of a 15-year-old kid that tells everybody how much of a man he is and he constantly tries to prove his point.

I said this yesterday. The Black Sea to Russia is the ultimate objective here, IMO. It was the objective in 2014 with the "annexation" of Crimea. They can't let NATO grain traction in the Black Sea like they have in the Baltic.

Until you mentioned it, I have never thought about how important western sea access was to Russia. But now it explains a lot about where they've chosen to expand and past wars going back to even pre WW1. ?

This is the most likely scenario that actually involves Russian troops fighting.....Putin sending in troops to "intervene" in Donbas and Luhansk to protect pro Russian separatist and try to push Ukraine from these regions and then get Russia and others to recognize them as nations , then use Russia's withdrawl from that area as a bargaining chip to try and force the issue about NATO all while forming puppet regimes in these two new "independent" nations.
