Some interesting comments from Putin in 2003 about the war in Iraq

"We stand for resolving the problem exclusively through peaceful means," Putin said at a meeting with Muslim religious leaders at the Kremlin. "Any other option would be a mistake. It would be fraught with the gravest consequences. It will result in casualties and destabilize the international situation in general."

And another

"The use of force abroad, according to existing international laws, can only be sanctioned by the United Nations. This is the international law," Mr Putin said in an annual live televised question-and-answer session.

"Everything that is done without the UN Security Council's sanction cannot be recognised as fair or justified.

"I am being as restrained as I can be when I choose these words," he said

Russia is going to bomb everything including civilians. They want Ukraine to surrender as quickly as possible so they will be very brutal and keep escalating. Russia is concerned about Europe and the meetings coming up.
I seriously doubt the warlords of Russia/Puttin are to concerned with Nato meetings coming up.

We haven't been this close to a nuclear war since the 80's.
All it will take to start WW3 is one errant missile strike into a nato country.

Plus, putin is getting desperate. He may resort to chemical, biological, or tactical nukes to make Ukraine surrender.
'IF' he does do that, will the world still just watch?
This is just like pre WW2. The world just watched as Britain fought Germany alone.

I have no trouble believing this is a possibility (the part about putting the nukes in Belarus). I'm surprised he hasn't put nukes there already.

I wouldn't just assume that. The only way you get WW3 is if the US declares it and it would take more than an errant missle for that to occur. A nuke of course but Putin isn't going to risk annihilation over Ukraine. What is happening now is the next thing to a "world war" however and that is a proxy war.

Exactly

"This pursuit of absolute security (by NATO) precisely leads to absolute non-security," Le said. "The consequences of forcing a major power, especially a nuclear power, into a corner are even more unimaginable."
Vice Foreign Minister Le Yucheng

Ukrainian army actually making gains on the southern front, the siege of Mariupol has destroyed and tied up enough Russian forces that they cant hold. Retaking Kherson would be a massive victory for the home team....there does appear to be a lot of Russian in Kherson though and the Ukrainians would do well to not get involved in house to house fighting......dig in and wait them out......this all but closes the door on a over land attack on Odessa etc.....and the Russians would be monumentally stupid to try a landing from the water to take Odessa.

Another high value military target gets lucky Russian munitions seemingly have a high failure rate....

I read somewhere else that the above is the rocket booster, which falls away from the rocket at some point. In this case, it appears to have fallen away and into a residential building.

You're right dude. Bunny ears probably weren't the reason for war. Not sure what I was thinking.

Come on now, pretty sure bunny ears violates half a dozen Geneva conventions.....certainly validates the invasion, and thousands upon thousands of civilian deaths.

In other news Ukraine forces showing Russians why trying to land troops by sea will be no fun....

A senior U.S. defense official, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss the military’s assessment, said Russia had increased air sorties over the past two days, carrying out as many as 300 in the past 24 hours, and has fired more than 1,100 missiles into Ukraine since the invasion began.

They push towards Kherson in the south as well....the Russians are losing, badly at this point. The only thing they seem capable of doing well is bomb and kill civilians for the most part. This is on the road to Mykolaiv from Kherson......

"the Russians are losing, badly at this point." Involved in a little propaganda of you own here?

Russians have in fact taken a lot of territory in the east and southeast in last 10 days. True though their losses are high and not really sure what they are doing around Kyiv

Now lets see if they are able to maintain their hold on these cities. That is often times more difficult than taking it to begin with which happened to us in Iraq. This is where the stench of urban warfare begins to rear its head.....

My daughter told me there was concern for water treatment plants being cyber attacked from chatter. Might want to keep a jug of water around.

That would be a stupid target IMO. While you could probably attack the modern treatment plants that are connected, you are probably just causing a temporary headache for the employees. Gonna have two days of water in the tanks and most systems for pumps and such have a hand option.
