Yes, Kurdish militias have been allies of the west against ISIS for a long time. They are great assets if they are provided air support and heavy weaponry.

If the Kurds do begin a ground operation then Iran has 2 choices. Mass troops to fight the Kurds in which case we can kill them with air strikes, or do nothing and give up ground.
Sounds like the Bay of Pigs. Hopefully, this works better!

I don't have the link, but the Turkish MOD said that they shot down a missile heading for a target within Turkey. They are calling for Article 4 to be enacted, so we could have Turkey getting involved in some capacity.
Now this could get more interesting.

They are required to serve in the army for 2 years, so maybe not so untrained

I’m sure the pull up bars and .22 rounds really help. I’ve talk to guys that help train some of those groups in Iraq. They are not trained to the skill level to match USA.
