That amazes me that a city that close to the Pacific Ocean can be near the desert also.
The Cascades block moisture transport from the pacific and causes a rain shadow on the eastern side of the mountain range.

I know. I just find it amazing how you can be right on the coast and still have a dry climate.Los Angeles is basically a desert. Come on, I know you are a lot smarter than that. I know you've seen pictures of LA and the topography and foliage. All of LA tree's were planted by people for the most part. Before it was developed it was basically orange groves with very few trees.

Bc Atlanta doesn't have a desert relatively close
But I’m sure they are the same latitude as the Sahara! ?Bc Atlanta doesn't have a desert relatively close
Yeah Atlanta is at the same latitude as parts of the northern Sahara indeed ! It’s so weird why is Portland at 46 n seeing 110 but not northern Maine at a similar latitude? modernweenieBut I’m sure they are the same latitude as the Sahara! ?
They will also , without fail, have a 1-2 week period with ice and snow! They do every winter and we all get a little envious! In any event, I say let Portland and Seattle have their 5 minutes of fun with the record breaking heat.
Come the Fall/Winter/Spring when they're seeing weeks upon weeks of overcast skies and drizzle, Atlanta will be looking awfully nice.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t a dewpoint of 65 a fairly high for Phoenix this time of yearHere's another "WTF!?" observation.
Both Las Vegas and Phoenix are *ONLY* in the low/mid 80s at 4pm in late June:
