Like I said a couple of days ago. It never fails the first 20 days of September are basically summer, then out of nowhere fall appears the back half of the month. This will almost certainly be the last list of 90+ degree weather the next 10 or so days.

There is nothing normal about 90s in Mid September.
It happens, you act as if it’s super rare, it’s not, it’s the SE not the northern Great Plains
90 is not super rare but I would consider it pretty rare after September 15th. Most years do not hit 90 in the 2nd half of September.
To have an average of 85 to 88° means that you're going to have temperatures 10° above the average and also 10° below the average. You're being a little dramatic.
I would say the average once you get to mid September leans more towards low to mid 80s than mid to upper 80s for places like Atl and Charlotte.

GFS is close to extending it, as it bridges 18-24C 850s over us for a extended period of time from out west, a NE trough could put us right in that firehose of warm 850s aloft when it’s cool just a few states above

The GFS has been doing stuff like this all summer. I mean, maybe we finally goo into the long hot dry period that's been anticipated from May. But I doubt it. We'll warm up and then we'll get a front through and cool back down. That's what I think will happen anyways.
