Misc Sports Thread

Lot of smoke and rumors around Bellichik leaving these days.

Also, UNC plays Wake, Duke, and NC State the last 3 weeks of the season. In state rivals smelling blood. Not gonna be pretty. Is it basketball season yet??
 
I'm hoping the Cubs can finish the comeback from being two games down in Milwaukee tomorrow night and face the Dodgers in the NLCS.
I have been a Cubs fan since the early 1980s and my father who passed away earlier this year loved the Dodgers who were his favorite National League team. It would have been great to watch some of that series with him.

I'm Braves fan, but my son is a Tigers fan (he worked in Detroit for a couple of years). I woke to him yelling "Nooooooo". Now he feels like I did from the 1991 World Series game seven. Haha.
 
Yeah, Georgia is actually a legit BAD team this year. 4-5 losses this year and an early congrats to GT fans here for breaking your losing streak against Georgia.
 
It took 37 minutes to play the last 2 minutes of the UGA/Auburn 1st half! I wonder if that’s a record.

Did UGA get a huge break on them calling that an Auburn fumble instead of TD? It sure looks like the tip of the ball crossed the edge of the goal line before the fumble! It took 20 minutes to review that play! Instead, UGA got the ball at the goal line followed by an absolutely bizarre UGA drive filled with major penalties against Auburn (including targeting and roughing the passer) and 4 more replay stoppages that ended with a field goal to make it a new ballgame, 10-3 Auburn. UGA was strongly outplayed by Auburn in the first half!

I was wondering why they were in the 3rd quarter when I looked at a X post showing a Georgia touchdown.
 
My hot takes:
-Indiana has shocked me this season. Did not see Indiana beating Oregon on my game picks today.
-Penn State is just cooked right now. They went from losing to Oregon (makes sense) to losing to Northwestern and UCLA (does not make sense, plus lost to a G5 team). Jim Franklin is going to be fired at this rate.
-Georgia imo looks like trash. Defense is good, but their offense just looks bad.
-GT looks vulnerable honestly. I think Syracuse is a possible upset game for them.
-Ohio State-Indiana will be a fun one to watch.

I thought that it was possible the ball was starting to come loose before he reached the end zone. He definitely was touching the ball as it crossed the end zone, but I'm not sure if he actually had control of the ball at that point.

I thought the same thing. That fumble call was actually among the tame things so far I've seen. AU has took some nasty calls. I mean what was that "no time out call" for GA?
 
Stockton going in for the TD instead of going down after the 1st down was an error because game would have been over. They could have run out the clock.

Game over!
 
Maybe the defense grew some more in the second half, but many of us Georgia fans aren't happy with the defense and there's a real beef because every SEC QB combined is like 34-42 in the first half.

It's surprising that Auburn didn't at least try some deep shots, but I guess Arnold just isn't a good enough thrower for it and for the first half, the misdirection stuff that Faulkner exposed as a deal two years ago is still an issue in the run game.

Are the refs to blame for Auburn scoring 0 points in the 2nd half ? Or do you give credit to Georgia's defense ? You're going to have calls go against you sometimes, but you have to respond and keep fighting.

Georgia s. D was much better second half. No doubt . But that call at the goal line were Jackson Arnold going in. Just lost words. But give Kirby smart credit for again making some
Halftime adjustments
 
There are a few teams in college football that always seem to be overrated year after year. I’m talking about Penn State, Oregon, Notre Dame just to name a few.
 
I bet there’s a lot of Cowboys fans at the Carolina game. They got a lot fans across the country. Charlotte has a lot of transplants there (Raleigh as well) where sometimes these “home” games draw out a lot of the away team’s base.

I vividly recall a home game against the Steelers a few years ago which was like 1/3rd Steeler’s fans in the stands. And the color commentator said something like “Wow, these Steelers fans travel well!”. Yea, I’m pretty sure half those jokers LIVED in Mecklenburg County…
