Back in the days of yore, when starting pitchers went seven or more innings if they were having a good outing, a less than stellar bullpen wasn't much of an issue. With the way the game is played today, the bullpen carries much more of the load as far as keeping teams in the game and holding onto a lead. Bullpen management is crucial to success in today's game.

It’s interesting because starting pitchers don’t throw as many pitches these days yet it seems like they get injured more.
