What is going on in the SEC, interesting season there… Alabama , Georgia and Tennessee. Making things more exciting

It was a very sad day yesterday for UNC in their game against GT. Tylee Craft, who played for them in 2020-1 as receiver and on special teams, passed away yesterday morning from a rare form of lung cancer that he had been diagnosed with in 2022. He was honored in yesterday afternoon’s game by UNC with Coach Mack Brown, who wore a Kraft shirt, and the TV announcers not knowing that he had just passed. Coach Brown gave a very long emotional hug to Craft’s mother at the end of the 1st qtr. Wide receiver J.J. Jones wore Craft’s jersey with his No. 13 and last name on it. Jones amazingly enough scored the 13th point for UNC with a TD. Craft was a mere 23. May Tylee rest in peace.

It would appear that Kirby fails to have institutional control because he has no self control.

Somebody on a Tech message board said Kirby could shoot the governor in front of the capital and not get fired. Woody Hayes got canned for a similar thing but all of his fans will come up with some excuse. One guy already said he was bending down to pick up his visor and bumped the kid.

Doubt seriously anyone is going be undefeated this season …. Nil thing is starting to cause much more parity

If Georgia can't find a way to control the clock, it won't be them to get Texas, and I really don't see anyone else that has a chance to sneak up outside of perhaps Texas A&M.

The secondary is unfixable at this point for 2024 unless Kirby is willing to step in, and maybe even then, but from what I am seeing, as of now unless Georgia does actually get Texas, I'd say it's Texas at 11-1 or even 12-0 (probably more likely as it's hard to trust Texas A&M for anything) and a bunch of 10-2 with a mess to sort out to send the 2nd team to Atlanta.

Speaking of Kirby though, I wouldn't be surprised if he apologizes on his conference on Monday. My guess is that he was trying to yell at the defensive coordinator and didn't even see Van Buren.

It looked inadvertent to me.

That will change later though and only about 5-10 teams will stand any chance at all. Alabama and Georgia will not be among them. Tennessee will not either.

Southern Cal
Oregon
Texas
Texas A&M
Ohio State
Michigan
Oklahoma

One of these will win the Championship every year once NIL really gets going along with directly paying players. Schools like Clemson and South Carolina may very well cut out all sports including football in about 10 years or so.

I disagree. NIL has made it harder for the factories to keep depth.

It might well end up shaking out differently by December, but I don't think a 2nd loss necessarily eliminates you from the playoffs.

I'd say 3 SEC teams make it for now. The SEC winner and two highest ranked after.

GT decided that a $10 million guarantee was worth it to play UGA at Mercedes-Benz instead of at Bobby Dodd in 2025, the first time in over 100 yrs that it’s not being played at either campus! Keep in mind that more than likely UGA will get more in the stands than GT…perhaps ~45K vs ~25K. But OTOH, GT would normally only get $2 million rev at Bobby Dodd. So, they decided extra $8 million worth it. Plus GT has 6 yr contract requiring them to play a game/yr through 2026 there.

Opinions? Good or bad move by GT?

It’s gonna lose some flavor, I would assume, not being on campus. Neutral venues are meh

UGA normally buys out a chunk of the stadium anyways and trashes the campus. I’m fine with it for one year but not often.

I guess there's less of a chance one of their players somehow finding themselves behind the wheel and mowing through campus at 900 mph.

Bennett quit because, in so many words, he’s upset the players have the least bit of leverage now. It doesn’t matter that he’s made his millions and millions. He can’t control them like he used to so why do it anymore.

If it’s not about money for him, he should pay back his salary for the last however long and go coach for free at the Charlottesville YMCA.

It’s never the coaches are greedy, it’s always the players.

I'm pretty anti NIL so I don't blame him.

Unless you are on a college campus for 12 months out of the year, you have no idea how hard these kids work. They are usually on campus in Mid June in Durham, taking summer classes, training and practicing. Our football team gets nothing for fall break and are generally still here for even Thanksgiving.

These athletes generate millions upon millions for their institutions. You pay coaches millions and they leave whenever they want. Pay the student athletes a fraction of what they generate and some folks want to take up pitchforks.

Again, if Tony Bennett was feeling generous and it’s just about the game, go coach somewhere in Albemarle County pro bono.

Sounds to me like Bennett made the same decision Roy Williams, Coach K, Jay Wright, Saban, etc. made. Get out while you can to save your legacy and prevent your program from going into irreversible decline.

I have nothing wrong with players getting paid in theory but NIL and the transfer portal have absolutely made college sports worse. Regional rivalries and player development are what made college sports great. You see all of that falling apart now. Yes people shouldn't direct the anger towards the players but I don't see how it's the coach's fault either. Blame the NCAA and TV networks.
