Presidential Election 2024

How much is Trump going to be able to do via executive order?

I’m sure that the point of the past day or so was to try to signal that Dems are OK with shutting down the government, but 38 R no’s is enough to also show that he has an incoming headache involving the House.

Honestly, the GOP senate members trying to work on a first reconciliation bill involving immigration is cute due to the fact it’s going to look like a war to pass even 1 reconciliation bill. I think 1 occurs, but it’ll be involving extending TCJA, it won’t involve corporate taxes going to 15% as I think that’s dead.

Since everyone here is harping on the extending of the debt ceiling to 2029, lets look at some of the pros and cons shall we?

Pros:
1. Certainly prevents the incesent gov. shut down conversations. The U.S. Treasury can continue paying interest on the national debt, Social Security benefits, military salaries, Medicare reimbursements, and other obligations.
2. Economic Stability: Avoids disruptions to government operations and ensures continued funding for federal programs. Helps maintain confidence in the U.S. economy and financial markets, avoiding a potential stock market crash or recession due to uncertainty.
3. Gov. Operations: Raising the ceiling reassures businesses, consumers, and foreign governments that the U.S. will meet its obligations.
Cons:
1. Raising the ceiling does not reduce debt; it simply allows borrowing to continue, which may lead to higher levels of debt.
2. Critics argue it delays addressing underlying issues like budget deficits and government spending. That being said, I have seen many on here on the DemoncRAT side state they are good with DemoncRAT spending bills that do not address government spending yet incesently trash spending bills and policies from the other side That dog does not hunt anymore folks.
3. Extending the debt ceiling is ONLY a temporary solution that ensures the U.S. can meet its obligations.

My take on this is we need broader and more long term fiscal reforms. I have said this multiple times on this forum and other iterations of this forum, WHAT WE ARE CURRENTLY DOING IS NOT SUSTAINABLE AND ONLY LEADS TO THE FISCAL FAILURE OF OUR GOVERNMENT. What many of you on here are biotching about this week will only lead to one thing, fiscal failure of our government. I don't presume to have the magic pill answer but what I do know is that some of the magic pill answers some of you are suggesting here are emotional crap suggestions. Take your emotions out of it and think about this rationally.

Con No 1 is true. It does exactly what you say.
No 3 is true too.

Can agree here too, but we need to look at foreign aid, cutting out the pork, and cutting the fat out of some of the agencies before going after the safety net Roosevelt gave us. Also, at least a small tax increase on any income over 1$ million. Maybe 5%. That would not hurt them much but could, along with the cuts I mentioned get us closer to a balanced budget.

This is not what the extreme Republicans want though. They literally want to hurt the poor so the rich can get richer. They DO NOT CARE about any of us. Not me or anyone on the forum. I think Trump does care, but Musk certainly does not. He only cares about himself.

JHS you started with such promise with this response and then you crapped out with your final 4 sentences.

What is happening now just highlites how stupid it was for Trump to take votes away from the House for meaningless nothing jobs. Every vote matters in getting taxes reduced. Taking 3 votes from the House was beyond stupid. I said Jeffries was already the DeFacto speaker and we can see that already.

Sad you actually believe this crap

For republicans to be okay with raising the debt ceiling would make any arguments long term of us being more fiscally responsible null and void. You can run on cutting government spending and also be okay with more debt
Very good point! It is amazing to me that so called conservative minded people are upset with Chip Roy. I have called the offices of several of Alabama's congressmen and it seems their talking point is "making it easy for Trump to operate without worrying about the debt". There are two things wrong with that; 1) Trump and these congressmen were not put into office for an easy go of it. They were put there to clean up a dirty and corrupt situation that was going to take sacrifice and hard nosed fighting. 2) The debt and the deficit is the number 1 place to start. Is it not asinine and foolish to give someone who is addicted to spending money ( the federal gov't including Trump) 2 years of blank checks with no accountability? That is one of the stupid things this bill does. You guys that say you conservative and then go along with everything Trump says just because he is Trump, are fools and hypocrites.

People are tired of the endless checkbook in Washington and I am happy with the Republicans who are pushing back on it. Something has to be done to get our country in better financial help. They’re running our country like we have a blank check and that’s not sustainable. I’ve voted for Trump twice since I could start voting and I will not support even him racking up more debt.

I will give him his four years. Maybe it initially can be raised, however, if he backslides on his campaign in regards to reduced spending I will be looking for the first Ron Paul prototype to vote for.

Why aren't Democrats being held responsible for the absurd spending. All I'm reading is trashing Republicans and Musk. Meanwhile the democrats just keep putting forth ridiculous bills full of garbage.
I'm against the Republican sponsored bill as well modifying the debt ceiling. I think there should be no new Bills approved until Trump is in office.
