Looking forward to everyones input here. Share your knowledge, thoughts and feel free to pass along.
We all would be wise to ask ourselves the what if question. With a power grid thats aged, dwindling resources, geo political unpredictability, cyber warfare. As a society we are as vulnerable as we ever could have possibly imagined just a decade or 2 ago. So what if the grid shuts down a few days, weeks, months? Chaos would ensue no doubt. Maybe you would just like to become solely independent from the grid without a crisis creating it.
Whatever the flavor, the worst plan is no plan.
Remember Shelter, Water,Food,Security are the 4 biggies. If a crisis hits, do you grab your emergency supplies run for the hills, remote isolation. Or do you make do right where your at?
For me and my squad its the water resource. Other 3 we have covered short/long term. Head to family farm no doubt. Water we have access to a low runing stream. But its got to be harvested, filtered without any power.
Fire Away.

RC you get time. Do you have remote solar charging capabilities? How many watts, cost etc
I don't. It is on my list to get into, but I haven't done it yet.

I’ve had this saved in my Amazon cart and just bought it.

Jackery Solar Generator 1500, 1800W Generator Explorer 1500 and SolarSaga 100W with 3x110V/1800W AC Outlets, Solar Mobile Lithium Battery Pack for Outdoor RV/Van Camping, Overlanding Amazon product ASIN B08Z3FRXW4
Water, I have 12 lifestraws, iodine drops. This is always a concern. If there is a running water source can always boil to clean. Then filter with coffee filter. If there is a known water shortage coming, put a liner in bathtubs and fill.

I have a 30 day supply of MREs but with a 10 year shelf life, they are about halfway there. We have a stocked pantry of dry goods and can goods as well.

I’m retired military, spent plenty time in the field but have young kids and wife they are not accustomed to lack of HVAC and normal comforts.

Cash. Gold and silver. Water. Toiletries. Canned goods. Seeds. Solar charging capabilities. Batteries. Medical supplies. Guns and ammo. Community relationships. Books/materials for medical care, growing food, hunting, defense, etc.
Add making moonshine. Gets you top dollar they said on a tv show.

One word, water, clean water. Municipal water supplies may last two days if you are lucky. Losing potable water impacts drinking(duh) food prep and sanitation. Rely on boiling water and you probably end up dead.

I'm getting solar panels and a battery for the house this spring. It's been on my wish list for years, enough power to live off grid indefinitely. Chickens for eggs and meat, plenty of deer if needed but I hate eating them. The hardest thing to deal with in this situation won't be resources for me, it would be all the people who don't have any. Luckily all my neighbors are well prepared.

Thoughts I’d love to live off the grid high up above 5,000ft on TN/NC border. Just myself wife and kids with no technology and life be much more simple.

I got some kind of gov preparedness questionnaire some years ago, and one was have you planned an escape route, if where you are is in danger. Well, in thinking on it, and looking at the map, I'm trapped. By Atl to the north, no evac there, a dead end to the south and east, so if it's the power plant, or the sub pens to the east, there are only two lane roads going west, and very few, those roads will clog immediately, so my conclusion was I needed a moped, or something a bit bigger, but not too big, but capable of all terrain. Real easy on gas. I'll need to get thru some tight places with all my supplies on my back, and in saddle bags. all my food, and shelter would have to be tied on. So I settled on a small, narrow trailer. For fuel and water. That was years ago, and still no motor, and no trailer, but I do have a plan now :)

Get you a thick chick! One to keep you warm if it’s cold and if crap goes down, can survive more than two days without food! More than likely they will know how to cook and be a ninja on the propane stove!

I'm slowly getting into some things for prepping for "issues". I have stocked my pantry with canned goods, dry goods (rice, beans, etc), bought some food off of My Patriots Supply, have a hand crank/solar radio/flashlight/power ports....but have not gotten into water sourcing. What is the best option (other than bottled) for sourcing water? This is a dumb question, but I live on the beach....are there any desalination options for personal use? I know people on wells, but if SHTF I need my own options. I'm single and live alone, but my parents are nearby so it would be three of us in immediate need. Great thread!

My patriot supply is great.

Bham99 good advice. Check out there supplys. Espeacilly water filtration does up to 20,000 gallons.

Doing some basic research on water filtration options for personal use, I see Sawyer and Life Straw are supposed good options. Any thoughts on these? Life Straw seems to eliminate more contaminants like viruses (that's uncommon right?) and some other things. Sawyer eliminates bacteria, parasites, physical contaminants. Sawyer looks to be more versatile as far as being able to flush the filter to "reset" it's filtering life, can screw onto bottles/bags, etc. Both have good reviews.

The scariest thing in SE natural water sources, lakes and such, are those brain eating amoeba! I guess they have to get in through your nose, but that is some supe scary shiiite! 99.9 % death rate if infected! I think I’ve heard of one teenage girl surviving it years ago! They can be in mud puddles too

Look up slow sand filters and how to build them. Basic water purification is really simple.

I trail run in WNC and use the Sawyer Mini. I have used it in the French Broad around Asheville even the Yadkin River above Idols Dam doing some runs at Tanglewood Park. Never an issue and that includes some instances where EColi was high on the French Broad. While not my first choice, I would not hesitate to pull from those water sources again with the Sawyer.

Thanks for the info guys.

I also am looking at KIO3 pills. Amazon has some, but not the dosages needed for effectiveness. You can take more I guess.

Also just FYI, Adding a few drops of bleach to creek water will not kill giardia or cryptosporidium. And secondly, chorine is unstable and has a short shelf life so there is no sense in buying a hundred bleach bottles.

Might not be a bad idea for trade.

130mg day is the recommended adult dose for radiological events.

Military MREs are good starting point, especially with access here in Eastern NC. 1 gallon per person water per day, and life straws. Cash on hand, fire power, the list just goes up.

Lithium power is good, dual fuel generators better (diesel/natural gas), solar is best. A combination of the three systems is preferred.

A tractor helps too… ;)

I believe this thread is appropriate for this question. If not a mod can delete. Unless someone has a better site I use:

https://ammoseek.com/
Yeah I have no issue with this info in here, any other suggestions? PSA is always out of ammo now and high priced

Gunbroker is always an option, but AmmoSeek looks across multiple vendors and provides ranges with excellent filtering. I also regularly do business with Ammunition Fairy, he’s based in the triangle and gets some of the harder to find tactical stuff at reasonable prices. Only caution is you do have to check back every month or two as his offerenings change.
