It’s a shame. I’ve got dozens of baby peaches on my trees.

This upcoming cold is fortunately looking nothing like 2007 in GA. That one had mid 20s on April 7th and 8th in much of N GA (even had 28 way down here)!

This one is expected to have near freezing at worst in GA outside of the mountains. Current forecast low for Bartow County on Wednesday is down only to mid 30s or ~9-10 warmer than 2007. The forecast for way up at Blairsville is down only to ~30.

There probably will be some frost throughout N GA, but from what I understand upper 20s would be needed to start damaging even young fruit. So, with mid 30s forecasted, there’s 5 or so F of leeway.

Are you taking any cold protection measures just in case?

I might blanket my fruit trees. My property is about as ideal as it gets for radiational cooling with my orchard in the lowest part. The peaches are the only ones with actual set fruit. 2007 taught me to never set anything out until mid to late April. I just wish I could control the trees.

Me being surrounded by the lake and being on a hilltop tends to keep my temp up a few degrees on clear calm nights. I'm actually counting/hoping on that because I have a lot of fruit trees (and strawberries) at risk. Grid forecast has me at 32. If that holds, it shouldn't be an issue. Anywhere that gets into the upper 20s will be in trouble.

Just now? Geez I'm mid summer

My maples and red oaks are just now seeing the reddish new growth turn green and grow. Water Oaks and pretty much everything else native has already leafed out. Non-native pecans are the last usually. It's funny, the cold-ish ocean water tends to run spring a bit behind within 20 miles or so of the coast until you get south of Georgetown where the water stays warmer in winter. Go inland to Florence and it looks like Memorial Day.

RDU’s last freeze was March 3rd (the only freeze in March). It could happen tonight, although, let’s be honest, with that sensor, it would be shocking.

RDU has had one freeze total in the last two Marches. RIP March as a wintry month? Last year’s final freeze of the winter was February 20th, which is actually insane considering the typical last freeze is around the turn of the month from March to April.
