Pattern May or May not

2.78” in the gauge yesterday. Remarkable storm really. No real sign of anything in the overcast but the ceiling just kept lowering and lowering until eventually it started pouring for a few hours. Not a single rumble of thunder though. We usually don’t see scud clouds scraping the pine trees outside of a tropical system so that was interesting to see.

Just Southwest of Birmingham we added another 1.92 inches yesterday bringing my total for May to 11.66 inches. Birmingham's official for May is 10.35 inches. I am ready for some dry days. I can't even get my riding mower on over half of my 4 acres.

We’re about to get blasted by a strong thunderstorm just to the S moving NE. Winds are gusting.

Edit: rain ended up surprisingly light considering how the radar had looked on approach though . It semi-petered out as it got here though I was on the NW corner. Total 0.08”. But most of the nearby islands appeared to get a decent hit (~1”). See Cocorahs map.

May has been like a summer month here.

PREPARE TO LOSE POWER THIS AFTERNOON
RAH_swody1.png

This is SERIOUS! Power outages likely. We are going to probably have large outages.

Duke Energy just emailed me this

Storms and high winds expected Friday. Power outages likely.

A strong weather front is expected to move through our area on Friday, producing severe storms with the potential for unusually high wind gusts.
Our crews are prepared and ready to respond to these severe conditions – however, high winds can often cause significant damage to power lines and poles, resulting in extended power outages.
Follow these helpful steps to be ready:
  • Prepare in advance in case of extended outages
Visit our Storm Center to learn how to remain safe during all phases of a storm, and consider making plans for the elderly and those with special medical needs should prolonged outages occur.
  • Sign up for alerts and know how to report an outage
Receive the most up-to-date information about restoration efforts by enrolling in Outage Alerts. If you lose power, text OUT to 57801, report online or through the mobile app, or call 800.POWERON.
  • Understand how Duke Energy restores power
Learn more about the restoration process following damaging winds.
Remember to always avoid downed power lines. If you come across damaged equipment, maintain a safe distance and report to local emergency services and to Duke Energy as quickly as possible.
We hope this information is helpful and encourage you to stay aware of weather conditions and to stay safe throughout any potential event.
