Severe March 14-17 Severe

Even with it underperforming my parents still had their like 3rd or 4th close call in the last few years... Crazy

They were in the track of the precursor to Newnan in 2021 missed it by like 5 miles and ever since it seems like every year had something at least close by. Tonight it was about 20 miles

And I never remember that many threats before

But yeah we got very lucky this wasn't way worse... Did Alabama even have any deaths? I was seeing rumors about Troy but nothing official

Pretty nasty thunderstorm this morning an hour back, probably the first of many of the spring/summer.

Would be saying that this tornado watch didn’t produce, but I do see some tornado warnings that popped up to my east and just got a very unnecessary automated call from my workplace with the worst of this having shifted east.

My second close call in a month as well with a tornado on the ground headed at my house to only weaken and dissipate.

Short-range models overperformed maybe except for the NAM. None of them really predicted the amount of convection out in front of the main system.

Yeah the other story all day for me was I never really felt like it wasn't sort of messy

Everything that tried to really go off got eaten up by the convection quickly

as usual CAPE will likely be meh at best, and in areas that its a bit better than meh you start to lose wind field for rotation (unidirectional, mostly speed shear). pretty much every model is breaking things up and getting it more cellular though, will be interesting to see if that does come to pass. i do think a handful of tor warnings for today

HRRR still showing rotating cells today across NC, latest has one right over the homestead. Also currently one tor warning Stanly Co just outside the watch box.

right over Zebulon too, let’s ride, jimmy fire up the plane we goin in… twisters three will be about me and Jimmy’s plane intercept of a tornado

Yeah SPC discussion mentions weak instability but also seeing some breaks and temps approaching low 70s, seems to be the concern. 68 here but still solid overcast

DISCUSSION...A broken line of storms, well oriented to the deep-layer shear vector, is moving across south-central North Carolina and northern South Carolina. Currently instability is relatively weak ahead of this line (MLCAPE <250 J/kg). However, visible satellite shows some breaks in the clouds and temperatures have already increased 1 to 2 degrees Fahrenheit across eastern North Carolina. If temperatures warm into the low 70s with the presence of low to mid 60s dewpoints already in place, sufficient instability should develop to maintain and perhaps strengthen this line of storms at is moves east through the morning and into the early afternoon. If weak destabilization occurs as current observational trends suggest, a downstream tornado watch will eventually be needed across eastern North Carolina and southeast Virginia.
