Do they get stronger at night?
Seems like Michael cycled in and out and intensified pretty fast right before landfallIf someone has already mentioned this, I’m sorry, but this time yesterday evening this storm had 85mph winds. Now it’s 150mph... has there ever been a storm to strengthen this much in wind speed in 24 hours?

Hurricane Patricia in 2015 went from a tropical storm to a Cat 5 hurricane in 24 hrs. She maxed out at 215 mphIf someone has already mentioned this, I’m sorry, but this time yesterday evening this storm had 85mph winds. Yeah but 24 hours before landfall Michael had 110mph winds and just kept steadily strengthening right up to landfall and just had that explosive increase the last 2-3 hours. This time, we’re seeing a hurricane almost double it’s wind speed in a day.Seems like Michael cycled in and out and intensified pretty fast right before landfall
Does it have enough time to get to cat 5?
Yes. Convective diurnal maximum occurs at night.
Edit: added diurnal (forgot it originally)
YUP.....Does it have enough time to get to cat 5?
Its actually nocturnal maximum...but semantics...
If there's some mid level shear trying to infiltrate Laura, only real effect currently is apparently to nudge Laura towards the right a little bit. I think looking at latest Sat loop that the northerly turn is underway now...which if that's the case may spare Houston/Galveston TX... not so good for a large portion of LA coast
Its been wobbling northward to my untrained eye. Seems like its wobbling back west someDOES ANYONE LOOKING AT THE IR AND WATER VAPOR SATS SEE A DUE NORTH HEADING???

Michael went from 145 to 160 in the last 2 hours, we’re 5-6 hours until landfall now so yes there’s timeDoes it have enough time to get to cat 5?
