Right on cue, cloud tops beginning to cool. Good grief.
Didn't even think about this: 948.7mb with 128kt SFMR. That pressure is plummeting
Unfortunately I think this storm is headed to a Cat 5 before landfall... I still wonder if it holds that strength up to landfall... either way this is going to be a historically destructive storm that very likely will reshape the geography of the Louisiana coasto
Very impressive to have that big of an area of 40+ dbz returns at 10k+ ft on the northern half of the eye

I can honestly say that I would NOT want to be in the eyewall convection of this storm, even if I were 50 miles inland. At least, not unless I was in a very secure location.

I know nothing about hurricanes but one would think the loss of sunlight would make it easier for it to weaken but I have no clue
To put it simply, they have been known to strengthen quickly at night. I'm not versed on how the process works being so close to land, though. "Diurnal Maximum" on Google should give some more information.
