I think that’s right. February 11-13, 2014 was close between the two disjointed systems (recall the 2/11/2014 wave dramatically outperformed and crushed areas of SE NC like New Bern with 10”, which is more than I got in the Triad from the whole thing!), but I believe the ILM area itself got skunked aside from maybe mood flakes.

Understood. I was driving in to work, so I didn't go into detail as to why (yea, risking life and limb to post on a weather board.....I'm sick...lol). I pulled over at Jacks to grab a biscuit and detailed it out. I'm sure I'll be wrong, but that's just how I see it through my crimson colored glasses....

Rgem is great for many of areas, but most like the NAM we have to be cautiously optimistic about it. The NAM and rgem both perform much better within a day or 2. Not 3+ days

congrats atlanta...rgem has that banding feature right over town. with maybe more after the run. snowing with temps in the teens.

Long range RGEM is better than the Nam by a lot
Insane run. Good for areas west, too. Big hit for Charlotte! But it is the RGEM at the end of its run.

While true, the RGEM is a much better model than the NAM IMO.

Had that RGEM run continued, it likely would have printed GFS like maps
We deserve an across the state snow storm, sincerely hoping this verifies and all of NC gets in on the action!
12z ICON is rough, but also still warning criteria for much of NC and a huge hit for coastal areas, so I guess it’s not a bad fail scenario?

Worth noting the long range NAM and the NAM in general isn’t very good…. It’s good with PTYPES, but sucks at H5. Same with the RRFS. Noticed it wafered a ton the last 2 setups at H5. RGEM isn’t a saint either though, but it’s likely a precursor of a CMC run

If the coastal low ramps up and occludes quick enough, then we won’t have a problem filling in the gap for the US-1/95 corridor. In fact, there could be localized corridor of higher totals snow totals for RDU and points east if that comes to fruition
We just need the tropopause polar vortex that’s diving in to be slower and tilt soon enough to make that scenario happen, or else we would have to worry about a possible dry slot. We’ve been trending better/towards the GFS on most guidance, we just have to keep that going
Its easy to tell if a model is gonna bombogenesis or not, just by watching how they stretch and focus the energy in TPV up north,before the cascade/fall starts

That little meso low just keeps showing up around sw NC. If that’s the case, the western Carolina’s need to look out. See 2003 for how it can go nuclear.

ICON output looks like it's drunk. It's been the least consistent of all the models with this storm.

This is one of the rarer snow soundings you can get across the Carolina’s. Extremely efficient snow soundings right there with a large DGZ, and a low one at that

This system is so cold and dynamic that the warm nose tried to flare up on the RGEM and it got slapped down. Not saying that will happen...we know how they work here but that was a positive

Its been consistent with that for the last few runs. I had been meaning to ask as well. It doesn't look like there's another energy source associated with it- at least as far as I can tell

Roofus paints a more realistic picture of what folks in the Atlanta area can probably expect from this- intermittent snow showers with a nice burst or two through lunch on Saturday.
