Pattern January 2021 - Joyless January

It’s hard for me to look at this setup and see more than marginal front end icing. Are there examples of this kind of setup actually turning into a decent event? I will grant you DPs ahead of it are looking to be pretty cold as of now, but in situ CAD is always a self limiting process to some degree.

That’s my gut feeling for the weekend as well. I’ve never saw a setup like this have snow in the Piedmont.

We went from being 72 tomorrow a couple of days ago to maybe upper 50’s as on the new NAM tonight. I have a feeling we might get up to the low to mid 50’s tomorrow.

Man that’s a lot of lightning, I’m doubting I see anything until overnight but I’m salivating over this, been 4 months since Ive gotten lightning shots D859D158-F923-46AC-8648-E10FABB4EB47.png

Not sure this gets east of I-26 though. It is still foggy and cool here. I think we may very well not get above 50 either tomorrow for both of us.

There gonna be elevated over the stable inversion, once WAA aloft really cranks later around midnight should start seeing most-unstable cape make it over us aloft, and yeah sad cad

I just looked at the 0Z NAM and it gets me to 70 tomorrow, but the cool air will be very close by. 70 for me and 50 in Gaffney 20 miles away IF it is right. I have a feeling that the boundary sets up 20-25 miles south of where it is shows tonight keeping me cloudy and cool. Hoping the storms get here since I have not saw lightning since mid November.

It’s gonna be close. The winds here have now backed around to the NNE and looking north, I’m seeing that GSO is down to 39 now.... so those NE winds are definitely holding the wedge in firm for now

A few wall rattling rolls of thunder this evening. Stark contrast to the pretty deep winter we have been in here. Some mountain tops have had snow on them for close to a month. Now it’s shorts weather. Then snow again Wednesday evening lol

That frontogenic looking band out ahead is a attention grabber, but we still have lots of work to do on the GFS, ideal wave spot is around AR and even that is meh B102B2EA-A18B-47DC-A7B3-BB5B39462862.gif
