Tropical Hurricane Dorian

Had to catch me a nap, we kinda of hit a plateau wind wise upper 30's to mid 40's is about were we have sat for several hrs now....waiting to see if we ramp up as the center passes SE the east of us. I am exactly 75 miles from Cape Lookout and 100 miles from Cape Hatteras, if he holds course he will landfall near Cape Lookout putting MHX in the western eyewall.....

Seems all the action happened earlier today with the tornadoes. I thought there would be more to talk about with the storm getting closer to landfall. Maybe it's still too early.

According the the models the best winds over most of NC happen after the center gets out over the Pam and OBX.....looks like 30-50 back your way and 50-70 my part of the state....I am skeptical though, at PGV with Irene was 73, Matthew was 59 and Flo only 49, highest at PGV so far is 45....if the models are right PGV should beat at least 2 of those sometime in the next 6-8 hrs....

Yes, guess that is what Greg Fishel was talking about with the backside maybe being worse with the wind. Looks like the tornado threat might be ramping up again, too.

Winds seem to be picking up here again I can hear them inside the house again....guess the next 5-8 hrs will be what it will be.....

HRRR does not get us really going till 3-4am if its right and peak would be daybreak which I am cool with....still showing some ridiculously high values though...75-85 mph seems crazy considering they are not even getting that in the western eyewall.

From RAH concerning possible higher winds over their area around late night into early dawn...

NEAR TERM /THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT/...
As of 1110 PM Thursday...

Wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph will be possible across the Coastal Plain and
eastern Sandhills for the the remainder of the evening into the
early morning hours of Friday (as the stronger winds spread
northward). There may also be a short 3-5 hour period late this
evening into Friday morning where we could even see some wind gusts
in the 50-60 mph range (perhaps even a bit stronger) across this
area.
That window of time is likely to start now across the
southeast (Cumberland/Sampson/Wayne/Johnston) and spread northward
into the central and northern Coastal Plain. Wind gusts along the
U.S. 1 corridor will generally be in the 30 to 40 mph range, with
perhaps a bit stronger shortly after midnight for a brief period of
time.

Dang. Most people will be asleep when the strongest winds are forecast.

Models still holding on to that 4-6 hr period of 60-70 mph gust over central eastern NC cranking up over the next few hrs as some dry air works in once the center is east of us...

Sure look like the center will cross Cape Lookout and Bogue Banks and at least partially get into the Pamlico Sound.

Getting some bigger gust probably to 50 I bet maybe 55....PGV has not updated its winds since right before the better winds started with the heavier rain bands....

Oh great, I am hearing winds are higher overnight? Well, I didnt lose power, I only got 18mph last night. I am so lucky

I dont think we gonna get much more than what we got right now which is gust 45-55 probably....the higher gust the models show for the next few hrs seem unlikely, if we are not getting them now I am not sure what will make it more likely as the center moves away from us.

Just stepped outside and wow...mother nature so powerful even at those winds it’s a surreal experience. Howling in my house rn.

Ocracoke Island is about to get rocked
