Agreed! It’s my oldest son’s 29th birthday and we have a fun day planned. It was looking so great, like we could all get home that evening and settle in for a storm. Now I’m wondering about a plan B. But a memorial service is much more critical, and I hope for your sakes the system slows down a bit!

Run a drop cord for lights and a small heater but yes you need an electrician to hook it up to run hvac

Use an extension cord to runs heaters and lights. It’s best if you have gas logs and gas stove in your house, that way you’re not dependent on needing electricity to keep warm and cook.

No. It’s not. House backup requires an electrician.

But. You can run TV and internet (maybe fiber will work?). Small space heater or two (CAUTION: wattage. And not the usual extension cord. Big daddy thick ones). And charge phones.

But beware the kind. Inverter is cleaner power. If you want to run sensitive electronics. The regular old ones are fine for heater and fridge.

But do check the power you need. And be safe! No power strips. Space heaters will melt punny cords. Even those orange ones you might think are “safe”.

Also. That window to get one may be short. The bigger ones aren’t just at a store. Delivery to house (or store) only.

Don’t run in garage. Build a quick shelter for it. And exhaust well away from window/door.

CO detector should be picked up as well. They’re cheap. Same for propane heaters and
Such.

Remember death comes from more than just “freezing to”.

Well for me, the Baja wave hanging back and allowing the long fetch overrunning across the southern US looked like a really good deal. Now, that deal may be playing with fire as this push of Arctic air as modeled seems a bit overpowering to a degree. Or at least you can see the possibility of it becoming too overbearing and in the end we may need a strong wave to fight through it. Just a few of my what if’s. Obviously this is a lot of fun to track either way. I’m here for it

That strong an artic air push is likely overdone a little in my opinion
