Misc General Banter Thread

Looks like I’ll be able to go on my cruise and not miss any snow chances “January 5-10”. In a way it feels nice not to have to worry about models for a week. Hopefully I’ll come back to rage! I know y’all are going to miss my positivity so much lol

Honestly you’d probably have a better chance of seeing snow on the 🚢 lol

TWC forecast highs now a torch for Jan 6-10 even up here, probably going to get at least one 70-degree today at this rate. Precip chances went down with it too which is also sad
I'm forecast to have four 70-degree days and a couple other days are in the upper 60s ! I thought we were done with this mess after last week.

We need a GA-only thread (minus the few counties in the far NE which are basically the Carolina’s because of CAD) to rant haha. However, Lake Altoona is looking very rough in seriousness

My guess is we won’t really see any fantasy runs between now and maybe Jan 7th. I would think if things are gonna go in our favor we should start seeing some things show up around then. But what do I know.

Lake Altoona has a lower winter pool level this winter due to construction and (boat ramp) maintenance. Specifically, I think it is mostly related to the construction for Bells Ferry Rd.

So it’s not completely related to the drought. But it has been quite shocking to see it so low.

I’m enjoying the current cold and dry snap. I had two great walks in the Canadian air the last 2 days and expect another one today. The area got down into the high 20s for the low, not far from the coldest so far this winter, 25.
One more possible freeze tonight and that should do it until at least Mid January.

Wow; I know the 15 day TWC outlook is very unreliable, and GFS based, but it's pretty depressing to check it out for the first time in weeks and see basically 64/45 for the first 12 days of Jan. :( Hopefully we'll get a couple shots later on but that's not a promising way to pass the prime climo time of the year in our area. If you saw snow in Nov/Dec consider yourselves fortunate.

Allatoona's winter full pool is 823' and its still above 824. It is protocol for it to be this level this time of year.

Thanks @Mitch West for your video. You do a great job at explaining things !
Appreciate that! Really do. Some mornings are better than others with the “flow” of explaining things. I give a ton of credit to people in here for being where I am at today with my platform. Lot of smart people in here.

I know you have a lot going on in your life with your job and family so I appreciate the time you take to make a video.

Out of curiosity, how many freezes do y'all actually get in a season that far south? USGA says your growing season is only ~5 days longer than ours but based on my experience down there y'all are planting corn almost a month ahead of us.

Late January. Let’s get it

Last freeze is usually in Early to Mid March I believe. I'm not from here though so I'm not too familiar with the past climate.

Man we just can’t catch any breaks around here. Cold dumps west. Shocker. Someone talk me off the ledge. @Mitch West
I’m worried about that too. I’ll never get over Feb 2021 BUT man let’s worry about locking in cold first & iron out the details next my dude

I'll take my chances with it dumping in the plains and hoping it works east. I am so tired of the way things have been where the trough is too far east. These snow starved areas of the Carolina's have 0 chance with that and the last few years is proof of that. Dump it in TX screw it. I'm still scarred by Feb 2021 too brother. But I kinda feel like 2021 was a rare exception of not coming east. Seems more often than not in the past before 2021 they did.

Brother, you may not be cut out for pattern watching. How about I send you a message when there’s a storm to track?
I mean iv been here for a few years now and it doesn’t get any easier lol. Just once I would like to see something go our way AND stay our way. It’s just constant flip flopping and then when the time comes some fly in the ointment like cold drops west or no active SJ. I’m sure it’s been this way forever but man sometimes it’s better not to know how close we get but no cigar lol.

Is it me or the GEFS and GFS is less reliable than it used to

Even the ECMWF also
They all suck really bad this year. I honestly think it’s throwing the Mets off a little. Chris justice for instance did not see that flip from cold to warm coming.

I think if I was a tv meteorologist I would try my best to not even talk about the weather past 7 days because it can flip so easily.

Looking at my forecast the next 10 days, I'm seeing 6 nights where the overnight low is forecast to be at least 15 degrees above normal ! This is like Deja Vu from last week's warmth. I see 2 or 3 nights where the overnight low could be close to our average high !
