I think we are taking this data a little to literal. I also think this is a case of being to smart for your own good, you guys study this stuff so much and are very knowledgeable on it. However, if you did not look at this Model that model this MJO that Block ect and you just knew hey.... its DEC 11th and we have already tracked 2 minor events youd be jumpin for joy. I am not saying everyone bury your head in the sand but goodlord man, enough with the long range bs. These computers are garbage see 3 days ago, one of these things had 2-3" snow 18hrs before an event. Point being do this for fun, these patterns may have mattered historically but they dont now, im sorry they just dont... Positive or negative patterns will produce what they should anymore so why worry about it? Look at the models 7-10 days out and then put them down and laugh at anything further until the time comes. Also, we are always 1 clown map away from being happy again lol
 
This place is going to go off the rails around next weekend if we don't at least see signs of that dog water pattern breaking down in the long range. This snow drought is beyond ridiculous and how February has been for over a decade now we CAN NOT lose Jan 10-25th completely. If we do I'd bet its over once again. February is dead to me until it proves me otherwise
 
Why do some people lose their minds if we talk about an unfavorable winter pattern. It’s the same crap every winter. We just had a nice couple of events to track, it’s cold through early next week and then we warm up. Come on…stop being a little b___ every time we get a 2 week warmup. 🤦‍♂️
 
If it's not going to snow, I think I'd prefer what we saw yesterday instead of the cloudiness that lasted for over a week.

But I finally looked at the long range models just out of curiosity and needless to say...barf with what the GFS has around Christmas. Guess I'll be in shorts and maybe I'll try and figure out something to do.

Fits that we've had the pattern often flip cooler in the long range for months until winter.

Not even joking but I remember when Christmas was regularly cold as a kid

I stg the last 10-15 years my family has done more trips to the beach than anything else because it’s been so warm around Christmas. Looks like more of the same this year. Not complaining ofc

I'll keep you in my prayers. I'm one of the older members here myself. I thank God that he has kept me healthy and for the most part injury free for most of my life. I'm 61 and the only time I've spent any time in the hospital was in the emergency room years ago to get thirty six stitches in my head because a friend of mine decided it was a good idea to run his car into a telephone pole in downtown Raleigh. God has been most merciful to me as far as health issues are concerned.

Now I'm at the point in life where the people I loved and looked up to are passing away. My father and father in law both died this year. This past Sunday was the fifth funeral I've been to this year. One of my best clients and also a good friend passed away and he was only six years older than me. Time is ticking and we all must face the fact that the end is coming for all of us sooner or later. Until then, we just have to go on living our lives the best we can. I wish you the best and hopefully you can hang around in this world a lot longer than you think you will.

Yeah I've never really talked about it but my dad lost his mind pretty much when his last parent died 10 years ago. He's never been the same since.... It's hard to imagine but yeah it's coming for everyone eventually

Getting old sucks. I mean I'm not even 40 yet and I feel it more and more every year already. Sometimes it's just random and out of nowhere where I realize I'm not in my 20s anymore

Like I really question how old I want to live to some days. I don't wanna get to a point where I can't take care of myself or I'm in a nursing home or something. My great grandparents died in those and it's not good memories

There’s been an ~3 day lag time in getting the official MJO phase/amp. As it turns out, the initial phase 8 lasted only 5 days (12/3-7) as it went into phase 6 on 12/8 (per 1st image), which was totally unexpected. I’ll keep following this closely to see if it re-enters phase 8, which I think has a very good chance but we’ll see.

Regarding this initial phase 8 (12/3-7), here are the temperature anomalies for some cities in the E half of the US:

- Boston: -8

- NYC: -8

- Baltimore: -7

- RDU: -8

- Atlanta: -7

- Birmingham: -7

- Tulsa: -7

These are on the border of B and MB normal.

Below are the average anomalies for NDJ, which I believe are in degrees F. These average anomalies were well exceeded even if these are in degrees C:

Thus, this was a colder than average phase 8 in the E US based on these 7 cities.

Hey at least its 6. Personally I'd rather go ahead and emerge out of the cod into 6 with guns blazing while we're apparently going to torch anyway and work back around for peak climo. Our luck though it'll do multiple loops in the circle, not help at all then emerge in phase 4 Jan 10th and still only be in phase 6 by Feb 20th smdh

Guess based on the historic coastal last year and freezing fog this year we'll have to move to FL panhandle!

Lol...most of us didn't have crap to track. After all the hype about the ssw event and mjo...and lots of big words..in the end the highlight for most of the southeast was days of 40s, rain, and a bit of freezing fog. Not exactly thrilling stuff. Not saying it's reason to believe the worst for the rest of winter but after years of very little for many i don't blame folks for being annoyed at seeing a crappy pattern coming up...especially around Christmas.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it were to sharply turn back to the left and be back in phase 8 quickly using the general idea of the admittedly inaccurate models. But nobody knows.

But what does that have to do with discussing a warmer pattern, a transient warmer pattern...some folks lose there sh__ whenever anyone posts a map with AN temps. Its a weather discussion forum...can we only discuss cold weather in winter....

I say...post whatever is relevant to the weather and discuss...warm/cold/rain/snow/hurricanes/tornadoes.

the big ones for us downstream come from nowhere and skip most the normal snow receivers.
gotta remember, NC, NE GA, Upstate are different than we are, and while they see nice things, we generally do not
if it whiff's them from suppression, it bodes well for us, and the best time for that is Feb

Man, it’s all over the interwebs too! All I’ve seen is about 25 posts in my feeds on merry Torchmas and 💩 like that! It’s quite annoying!
