It's been nice to have the cool weather in December, but I wouldn't say that this stretch has been remarkable. The overnight lows (at least for my area) have been nothing to write home about in terms of being cold, the deviation has occurred so far more in the daytime high category.
We toss all models except the GFS. And if that fails we just wish… I mean nowcast.
It has been persistent in giving us a decent winter weather event, that's for sure. I hope it is seeing something that the other models aren't picking up on.
Tell you what this December is gonna make a dent in all my Helene firewood lol
If I remember right, it was consistent but mostly on an island leading up to the event last February that ended up being a winter storm warning criteria event, and it was right, so there is hope.

Stevo it wouldn't matter if it was Jan 15th it still wouldn't snow in this pattern. This pattern we're in is trash for snow for everyone not in TN, northern and eastern NC and VA of course. It's bad for CLT back to the sw piedmont too. The atmosphere hasn't forgotten how to snow here. It can't with these nw flow northern stream dominant patterns over the last few years. These patterns aren't as good as we like to try to convince ourselves they are.

My forecast low for next Saturday Night has gone from 24 to 35. Temps in the 50s to near 60 in the afternoon next weekend. That doesn't sound like an Arctic invasion.

I'm gonna get crap for this, but I'd rather have the storm dry out completely to where even VA gets nothing at this point.
They'll have plenty more chances this winter anyway, they don't need two events in a little over a week

You’ve been GFSed. Thus, Barney has decided to vacate the area. The 0Z/6Z both had Sat night’s low of 26. Then the 12Z raised it to 34.
Are you sitting down? I hate to break this news to you and please don’t shoot me, but the Happy Hour GFS has it way up to 46, 20 degrees warmer than two runs earlier! Can you believe it?
I’m educatedly guessing that it will bounce back colder at 0Z with probably 30s.

Just to make sure I’m keeping up, December has one of the coldest starts on record, except for the inevitable warm-up that’s definitely gonna happen-except when it totally can’t because of the teleconnections you haven’t heard of interacting in a way that *always* happen, except when they don’t. So we are definitely headed for a snowy, warm, wet, frigid, balmy mid-to late Dec. Just to make sure I’m tracking correctly.

I mean I can honestly understand why. If there is even a chance of it snowing especially when kids will be on the roads home they don’t want to take that risk of kids being trapped on the he buses like what happened in 2014

I lived many years up north. I'm not a southerner.
Even in Tennessee, I 40 is the dividing line when there is snow and ice

I guess if you really love snow and live in the South, anything above 5k in NC would be great. If you want even more, the next place to go would be West Virginia-say Quinwood or Rainelle or Canaan Valley. You'll get your 100+ inches every year.
