Misc General Banter Thread

You do realize that those average temps is over a 7 day span. It's not crazy to have highs around 55 one day and 31 with snow the next and then back to 60 three days later.
I really want a sustained cold pattern. The type of cold that will keep snow on the ground for a week like we saw in January 2011.

Our average lows are at or below freezing. We've gotten plenty of events over the years where it was marginal. We good.

Generally for MBY average January cold, lower 50s for highs, upper 20s for lows is not going to cut it. I generally look for about 7-10 degrees below normal when looking for winter weather around CLT.

Precip generally raises the temp with WAA. You need to accommodate for that.

I agree but I'll say down here on the coast sometimes the cold catches up to the moisture when we have coastal lows before it gets offshore.

The 35 is the avg low at the Conway-Horry County Airport. Not sure how far that is from you.

Quite a ways. :) The coastal influence can be interesting to observe. Conway proper is about the line where when you go further east you get way fewer frosts just from my commute observations. We have some interesting sinks and cold pools that develop in NE SC and SE NC.

Back Island/Holly Shelter is probably the most famous. Lots of peat soils can make it the coldest place in NC outside of the mountains and it's very close to the ocean.

Check the monthly summary for December as an example. It can be 5-8 degrees colder there than surrounding areas.

Well 1 thing is not changing on the models. Very dry weather. If this event Sat misses, we may have one of the driest Januarys ever.

IMG_3294.pngI can save a lot of us some man hours here. Yes it’s gonna be dry. Yes the temps are gonna be marginal. No it’s not going to snow for most of us in January. No it’s not going to snow for most of us in February either. Hop aboard the SE Polar Exsuck.

So a Dilemma to ask non involved adults about. I’m coaching YOUTH REC team (Keep that in mind) 11-13Yr old girls with my oldest daughter. We had our first game tonight, it’s against her old team the team is always hand picked and stacked as they’re an AAU travel team that This coach uses the rec league as extra reps ect. Let me preface I’m absolutely not an everyone gets a trophy guy, HOWEVER these are young girls in a rec league. I have a good team actually solid Guard play ect. He presses the ENTIRE GAME…. They won 70-2, you cannot even get the damn ball across midcourt bc he has 3 girls already 6’ tall and a Girl who plays freaking HS Varsity at 13 as a freshman. Midway through the 2nd half I was told to “Shutup and Quit whining” when I called a timeout and casually pointed and asked “You satisfied yet? Have you gotten your kicks yet? At what point is the lead big enough for you to call off the dogs and actually play basketball?” He continues to press…. So maybe I’m immature, the hand shake line I walk by and fist bump but don’t say anything bc I don’t respect him. He laughs and says “Aww come on man don’t be like that” I ignore him and walk out of the gym to address my team. If he wasn’t known for this bs for years and hand picking girls that weren’t available to everyone it would be different. We had a dad Kicked out bc they’re rough, very rough and they tackled his daughter. He stood up and pointed at him yelling “every F’ing year with this bs every F’ing year” and they escorted him out. Idk be honest am I being a baby ? If it wasn’t young girls in a rec league I wouldn’t care, but this isn’t AAU man, some of these girls have never played before this year.

It flat out isn’t fair! It teaches zero life lessons
I’ve dealt with it in recent baseball leagues (rec) and they supposedly “ random “ lottery for the purpose of making fair teams, but always loopholes and always a stacked team or two!
What you described above is egotistical, ----- -ass coaching and it makes me sick! Put in second string, or don’t press, when you’re comfortably up by 20-30 points! It teaches kids how to be assholes and win at any cost and to have no compassion!!!! Rant over!!

My point exactly was not only the humiliation of young girls who are playing yes to win but Rec league is for fun AAU is for blood I get that. But that team didn’t run a single offensive set all night , so what’s he even teaching them? Not one screen, not one cut nothing

Thats dirty work man. That’s when you tell your girls to foul out. All of them. Keep going til you run out of players.

Feel you. Had a 5th an 6th grade rec football team, play a stacked 7th grade, two 8th graders one time. All i had was my 6th grade son ( ended up playing D-1) had to put him at qb and qb sneak it like 20 plus times to get out of there from middle 1st qtr on. We got a lot of 1st downs, 3 yards cloud of dust, ran clock. We lost by about 25-30. But without him, oh brother, would have had to call it, 5 mins into game. Ive coached all levels, sparingly GA after my playing days, but several years HS down. Never would do what you described. Been on top , well outmanned other team a few times. Always pull starters and football just run basic run plays, vanilla, base Def. Rec basketball, never would keep pressing. Coaches like you described at that level arent doing anyone any favors. Sadly he's not only one. Yes you teach to get after it. But when your up 20-25. Time to call off dogs, atleast pull press back. But nothing you say will change him. Every dog has his day. What goes around always comes back around in some shape size fashion. Best to let it go move on to next play.. cant undo whats been done. Good luck, know it sucks right now

The entire southeast is starved of a “good snow”… minus Nashville … the mountains, the NC coast, northern GA, etc… just remember there are winter weather lovers everywhere.. the ultimately screw zone lately seems to be ATL south to Columbia, SC. The i20 corridor is the ultimate once in every 20 year snow… as a matter of fact, they’ve had two snows SOUTH of them (obviously numerous north of them) since they’ve had a “good snow” (more than a trace)… most years, they don’t see a single flake.

Still waiting on the 1000000 year cold outbreak! Normal high here is about 30 degrees! Some hot Barney, he ain’t gonna make it!
you’d think we’re in the middle of a thousand year drought after reading the disco thread. Meanwhile my grass is soggy from the last weeks fog and stretch of 80 degree dew points
