Misc General Banter Thread

Imho, elevated warm fronts/warm advection like this is usually the ultimate trump card when it comes to winter storms around here.

Every model just plain sucks at forecasting it, whether that’s AI, traditional models, cams, etc. I’ve learned to always respect it, particularly when I see it in the very short range like this.

Seeing it this consistently across different models at the moment (even the globals) so close to the event makes me feel like there’s a shot for places around Fayetteville and Raleigh to bust higher on the snow totals depending on where the warm front sets up shop

You going to do an updated map today? Or sticking with one from yesterday?

Alright, someone please explain brad p's logic in the upstate and ne ga. Because for the life of me i don't understand it.

Did you factor in the 15:1 ratios that will get you to .3”? Heavy dusting that will make everything look like a winter wonderland ❄️

I am banking on 30:1 ratios...we need all the ratio's we can get...

In the early Jan 2018 event, RDU recorded 0.06" of precip and we get 1" of snow out of that. That seems high for this event...hoping for like 0.01" of precip to get us to 0.3" of snow.

Nailed last week in going mostly sleet. Keep in Mind I’m normally Conservative

1. Closer to 3” NEGA
2. Closer to 4” SC PeeDee

Gonna Be a small pocket in each with isolated pockets of more. For now this is what I’d put on TV if I was a Met. Always wanna leave yourself room to go UP going into game time. Don’t wanna go backwards you look like a clown. Historically I see this as a few 6-8” Pockets in Piedmont. Few Pockets of 10+ in Sandhills and Ultimately NE NC as I do tend to believe we see a slight correction back to Climo and North headed into game time. Goodluck to all, as always roast me if you like.

EDIT: IK what the data says …. But I also believe the winds whipping will skew some accumulation and Ratios. Thinking more in line with 13:1 - 15:1.

Okay, the panic over Raleigh seems ridiculous. 4-6" was always the floor and I still feel good with that. We're basically gambling on the coastal WF and I can accept 4-6" if we miss on a chance of getting 12" if we can get that WF over us. Sometimes that's the game if you want to chase after weenie amounts.

If meaning upstate SC watching his video he says lookout in the midlands for heavier amounts. Even though he showed only 1-3 inches he wasn’t sold that would be all. If that’s what you were referring to.

feeling good about downtown Charlotte as a place to watch the storm. I’m arriving late tonight. Will

We call it Uptown around these parts. I went to a Hornets game at the start of the second 2022 storm. Went to a couple bars then couldn’t get an Uber after the game, so had to ride the now infamous light rail and walk about a mile home from the Woodlawn Station. Was beautiful uptown during that event.

Not to overstate the obvious, but this storm will have surprises and disappointments. Some underachieving areas and some overachieving areas. A pessimist is never disappointed. 🤣 I'll just hope for a couple of inches of powdery snow, take a photo, and plan for some springtime gardening. Oh, and if that groundhog sees his shadow on Monday, I'll beat the living crap out of him.

Do NOT go N out of the City towards University OR West towards Airport. Don’t carry cash, don’t even look at the Light-rail or you’re already in Danger. I’ve lived in the CLT Metro 33yrs now …. It’s a Cesspool be careful

MOST IMPORTANT—- if you get hungry at 11P - 2A, YES there is a cookout on Freedom Drive, NO you absolutely shouldn’t go there
