It’s not as simple as this but it’s basically what we needs. Green is good and red is bad. MJO wants to stay in red more then green. Yes we might had a 7-10 day window in January but she heads to red where she wants to stay because of the active IOD. I don’t think January will do it and February doesn’t look great but might be ok I’ve she can come back to the green side. Yes it’s my opinion and I’m not a Met but I’ve seen this movie before and I’m going on past winters like this one. I was wrong on my prediction and I was wrong last year. I look forward to some strong ninos and la ninas. This weak crap is poop. Merry Christmas

If we crap the bed and not get a single storm all year I'm done with winter! That would be too much after the disaster last year!

I think we get a storm or 2 but late into the winter. The southern jet has been active and looks to stay that way. It’s all about timing and I think we get lucky at least one time before summer starts in Mid April.

Can't say I'm not excited about 60s this weekend. Cold/cloudy/no snow is about as blah as hot/sunny/no rain. Its fun for a while then its just a grind.

Observation ... other than the time as a youngster of 5 when I plugged the dog's tail into a wall outlet next to the tree just to see what would happen, I've never seen such dismay on a Christmas Day in all my years ... and all of it over a bunch of silly models ...

So far there’s nothing to be excited about this winter. But forecast or for a above average snowfall. Could all those forecast bust?

I don’t think so.. realistically we would only need one storm to really match good with timing because if we can get an active southern jet storm to hit some cold air it could easily produce some good snows that would most likely rip the scales in favor of normal to above normal snowfall even with that one event

Just an observation of mine. A lot of us have our age on our profile. Guys in their 30's-40's (like me) do most of the complaining. Lol we've lived through enough disappointments we should know better but haven't accepted the way things are. The younger crowd doesnt know any better an are eternal optimists. The older hands have given up and accepted reality!

Also think location plays a big role. East Georgia and SC have had it bad lately so we do most of it. I’m sure it will swing the other way soon. Florida and Louisiana can’t get more snow then me forever.

accepting reality ≠ giving up

Absolutely. There is major cause for concern at this point for just about everybody on this board. The clock is ticking and we’re already looking ahead 2+ weeks. Hell, many areas well to our north haven't even seen a flake and it doesn’t look like they will at least until the second half of January. I’ve seen this far too many times.

That is true. It is ticking. Yes I realize it's only December and we usually don't have snow by now. But it's time we should start seeing some promising signs going forward and we really don't. After every dumpster fire we look back and say the writing was on the wall early. One could make a strong argument the writing is there this year now. I'm not throwing the towel yet as it has plenty of time still. But from my experience and the great minds I follow online agree once the Pac goes to crap it usually doesn't recover. The winters that end well usually rely on the Atlantic in the end. Good lord if we have to rely on the NAO to save us we're screwed! Lol
I said earlier at this point just give me a 2 week stretch and a storm. Below average as as a whole is already out the window.
