Pattern Fab Feb

KGSO had its second largest diurnal range ever yesterday, at 45 degrees (low 24, high 69)
High/low of 72ºF/21ºF at Burlington, 75ºF/22ºF at Horseshoe House, and 74ºF/24ºF at Hoffman Forest. Have to be some of the few 50ºF+ diurnal ranges ever in NC history. All official NWS stations too, not some random person's PWS.

I remember either late 90s or early 2000s AVL going from 32 to 82 in early May.

I can understand the lack of snow causing frustration, but why some of you want wall to wall bitter cold is beyond me. We have just had our coldest winter in 12 years and it isn't enough. This winter has been an A here in upstate SC. Atlanta and Raleigh folks do have a very legit reason to complain though.

I mean it is winter after all and we haven’t had a solid one in quite a while. It would be nice to have a wintry February for once

It doesn’t have to continue to be bitter cold for me to enjoy it. I’d be content with just slightly BN or even NN. I mainly don’t want a torch. I want winter to continue feeling like winter even if not nearly as cold as earlier.

I confess, I really don't think winter is over. Feb 20- March 20, some of us may get lucky with a big dawg!!! I'm on @raincold side!
You still have almost 2 months to get something where you are. It can snow into April up there. 1987 featured a big snowstorm in the mountains not too far from where you are in early April. The latest major winter event where I am occurred on March 24, 1983, so I actually have over a month left to get something.

Some of the expectations are too high. we're not going to have 3 months straight of winter weather chances. I'm not talking about the Raleigh people I would be bitter as well.
Yep. The winter of 2009-2010 was something akin to that (although maybe more like two-and-a-half months' worth with a January thaw if I remember right?), but it's a rarity.

To all the warm wanting folks…. Your greedy arses get 9-10 months of the year. So cut it out.

Clearly you’re not one of those folks. You just sparked a general venting.

Seriously. Some of us live to enjoy a season that once used to be 3 months. Now we’re down to 2. Sorry we get edgy.

And it feels like reality is.. for us to just radically accept we should just lop off another month. Leaving us with just ONE month a year to cheer on the weather we love.

I know some think we might be flipping. To some snowier pattern. But it’s magical thinking…. For now. A blizzard in NO last year. Some getting something that looks like old skool up in NC (except Raleigh). Maybe the PDO is going to flip, after an eternity!? I want to believe too. But that’s just not looking like a thing. No signs that is happening. We’re still in the worst of the garbage that doesn’t deliver something that gives us a solid Miller A.

This winter gets a solid F-

Obviously a location based grade. But especially angry with Mother Nature for teasing us Atlanta folks. I’d rather torch vs. a winter that teases 3 damned storms that epically fail.

One of which was an anxiety inducing ice storm where money was spent and then didn’t even pan out. Grateful it didn’t materialize as a historical disaster. But… the weather nerd in me who gets those who want to experience extremes, yeah. I get ya. I feel like I’d be less angry if I did have a significant ice event. It’s complicated. And if ya get that, you get. If ya don’t, hell no, I don’t wish misery others.

There is some snowy members on the EPS here suddenly around the 23rd I guess we'll see

At one point there was snowy members for Valentine's Day though and now it's 60 and rain haha

At least it appears it's going to rain quite a bit. That's always good news here. If we're not gonna have more winter I do hope it stays wet

Hopefully the weekend storm doesn't split apart in an unfavorable fashion that precip-mins us again, but it would be par for the course.
Yeah, I keep thinking the rug will be pulled again. Almost expect for everything to shift north or south at the last second. I've got fruit and nut trees that are not going to do good if it stays this dry through March.

Hopefully the AI models are right. They still show a very nice event. The regular Euro does too, but it is trending a little drier.
