Pattern Fab Feb

With 24 of the 28 days of Feb in the history books at GSO. So far we have had 16 Below Normal and 8 above Normal. Should end up Below Normal for the month. Been a Cold Winter with 60-70% of the days spent Below Normal. Not to Shabby and we will end up at 200% of our annual snowfall accumulation. A+

We actually managed to pick up a surprise inch of snow last last night and early this morning. This was one incredibly stout and long lasting NWFS for my area.
Impressive y'all got an inch further to the south, we only ended up with a quarter inch.

I don’t think you have to worry about to many people happy about this storm up there. Heavy wet snow with winds knocking power out and people trapped in neighborhoods with no plowing in parts.

Hmm. Thought I Quoted a post about snow up in Boston and not being happy for them. Either way my point stands as I’m pretty sure they are miserable up that way.

Even though it stayed well below freezing yesterday, the higher level end of February sun really knocked down the snow cover yesterday.

Heck of a hail spike from KFFCView attachment 194588
Had to do a hail intercept tonight and somehow picked the northern cell of the bunch which went on to produce prolific hail over Talking Rock. I was expecting pea to dime size and was shocked when the thing blew up on radar and went severe. I only clipped the falling hail for about 30 seconds, but stopped in the town of Talking Rock where visibility dropped to essentially zero from hail fog and motorists were sliding on roads in spots reportedly causing some accidents. By far the most hail I have ever seen on the ground. Can’t believe I managed to catch this on what appeared initially as a meager general thunder day (lowered freezing heights can make magic happen around here though)

It hit our house but thankfully stayed pea sized. 3.28”

I’m having a hard time believing my backyard is in a severe drought. It’s been so wet over the past month. None of the reservoirs or rivers I go by on a regular basis looks particularly low, especially compared to other times we’ve been in a severe drought. I’m guessing winter drought impacts are much less impactful. Luckily, a wetter pattern seems to have set in with decent rainfall every week.

According to the latest monitor, I’m in an extreme drought and I’m seeing the same thing. The ponds are full. Streams are flowing. I think we’re only gonna see more consistent rain with the STJ waking up as El Niño takes hold

I don’t think drought means what it used to mean. My yard has been soggy for weeks and weeks. Water standing in some ditches. Ponds seem full. Large creek below my house still runs over the dam. People burning debris at will. Nothing appears to be moisture starved. I guess it’s just strictly a numbers game and not a true reflection of what a “drought” really looks like. And maybe it’s not showing up yet due to the season we’re in. Idk

3.95" of rain here fell in the 24 hour period from Thursday morning to this morning, and we definitely needed this soaking. I really hit the jackpot. Nothing severe, but a decent amount of thunder/lightning too, it was going for a few hours in the afternoon, and resumed around midnight. Now 63ºF and sun starting to shine, simply can't ask for better February weather than this.

Precip 2.66 6th straight below normal month -11.28 cumulative now but sure no drought

is that 11.28" total in 6 months or 11.28" below the last 6 months normal?

just shy of 19" here in that period, which is about 10" BN. 2.63" for the month

After a very wet August, this area is a similar 11” BN since September 1st. La Niña here is usually BN. So, good news is the upcoming Nino.

El Niño usually means drier summers I thought, especially August. Less tropical activity

9.89 total in that 6 months -11.28 departure. Am I having a math issue and the departure is worse?
whoops i did 7 months, was thinking august being -6 months from feb. a quick check of the lillington COOP says your departure is reasonable.

we are 12.78" total, -11.2" departure in that -6 month- period
