Pattern December to Remember

Unless I am missing something some interesting temperatures are going on right now. Gainesville is at 52 while Lawrenceville is all the way down to 43. My thing is showing 42.6 here as well. What would be causing this? The forecast low tonight was 49.AC945650-38DE-4D7C-B3B1-B07AA2D0B7F8.jpeg

What is your elevation? The same thing was happening last night. I was at 53F for a quite some time while stations just a mile or two away were in the low 40s. If you’re in a low lying area your temp will drop first while that heat has to go up past the higher stations. I’m still at 54.5.

My elevation is about 1,150 feet. Kinda interesting being so much colder then surrounding areas. I don’t remember it being like this here before, but I haven’t been around here that much lately so perhaps I haven’t noticed.

It will only be temporary, one way or another it will level off over the next several hours.

Looks like Rah NWS playing catch up, probably wake up to an advisory.

Wichita Falls, TX made it to 91*F yesterday.

This is near the OK border I might add, not deep SW Texas ..

That's pretty scary to think there's that much heat stored in the atmosphere. Heatwaves are on a whole other level now.

I don't know about all that.

But it was a perfect combination of mesoscale influences that contributed to the high. That regon of TX and OK is under a severe drought right now (we know dry grounds warm much more efficiently), there was a strong downsloping wind from the higher elevations in the panhandle, plus there was full insolation during the morning hours and peak heating.

It is rare to get all 3 of those things to combine in December, even in Texas.

Don't worry about BHS1975. He is just sneaking in a GW comment.

We had skyrocketed this morning to 78*F, and now we're only at 79*F one hour later.

A narrow stream of Cirrostratus has blown in, right over the Metroplex. It extends way back to New Mexico

It would be a textbook DFW ---- up if tht somehow stops us from surpassing the record high of 80*F.
