Pattern December, Make analogs relevant again

You'll see some :weenie:
Not necessarily if he’s only there till the end of December.Even places like Indiana that aren’t by the Great Lakes don’t see the majority of thier snowfall until January starts most years. That’s why I have to laugh sometimes at people in the Deep South declaring winter is over on December 5th. Most years we don’t start sniffing snow until mid January or later.

Edit: I originally posted September but ment December.

Yeah most places even up north don't get the bulk of their snowfall until Jan or Feb.

Okay, I am trying to get my hands on two books by Ludlum, He wrote two volumes of books for Winter weather in the South from the 1600's to 1800's or some range like that. I'll get back to you guys if I get my hands on them.

I know looking at it, he was missing some key stuff during the Civil War. I have personally read some of Sherman's army journals from soldiers that had multiple snow and ice events here in the South, including Columbia that is not documented anywhere I have found.

Yeah, Early American Winters Vol l (by Weatherwise founder David Ludlum) that covers the period of 1620-1820 and Vol II which covers 1821-1870 is a record of the biggest frozen precipitation storms in the NE, South and current Midwest but are pretty pricey for like new editions and even very good condition ones. I plan on saving my allowance from my wife ;) in order to buy them

I know they are considered Mid-Atlantic but WV has been getting pummeled in every run of these models over the last week. Take me home! lol

I sure hope so! Going skiing there over New Years! These warm temps are gonna do a number on their snow base.

I lot of you in the SE have already gotten more snow than I've measured each of the last 2 or 3 years!
Yeah it's crazy. I saw as much snow in GA earlier this month than this area had all of last winter. I heard last winter was horrible in Indiana.

Welp. The cold is slightly slower so far on the 18z GFS vs 12z.

Edit: earlier on.

What in the?

I swear its like SC has a shield on us

Hey guys, let's just all move to Aomori Japan, pop around 300,000. It is the snowiest real good sized city in the world at 7.92M yearly average (300 inches approx. that is around 25ft)

300 inches in Japan ? That's impressive. They must have some elevation.

Edit: They are only 7 feet ASL and about the same latitude as Pittsburgh.

A greater degree of run-to-run
consistency among the longer range guidance regarding the
development of this axis of mid-level frontogenesis lends higher
confidence in some precipitation on Christmas Eve. With the lift
and sufficient moisture in place, anything that falls will likely
be in the form of snow flurries/light snow given the cold profile.
The most likely area for snow flurries/light snow will be north
of I-20 on Christmas Eve and perhaps early Christmas Day. At this
point in time, heavy precipitation rates don`t appear likely and
impacts should remain low, but we will keep an eye on this.
Regardless of any winter precipitation, it looks COLD for
Christmas Day and beyond.

Christmas flizzard watch lol

A soggy, wet Christmas Eve into Christmas per 18z GFS for SC & Others.

1064MB... wth. All hail king Canadian...... lol

What we've been watching lately is there but because of that strong high pressure it never really fires up...looool..

I think there's going to be a strong arctic event but I just can't see the 1060+'s.

Yeah, any precip will be absolutely squashed this run during this push. Fun to see!
