16 degrees here this morning. It sure has been hard getting up to go to work early in the morning in this dry cold.

Barely made it to 32.7 this afternoon. Already back below freezing at 31.4. What a cold week!

I saw -1 ~8am at the same spot a buddy reported -4 an hour earlier, known micro-climate less than a mile from the house. Bottomed out ~zero at the house. Took a little jebwalk through the yard, 3.25-3.5" of snow cover in open areas, still not crusted on the top, down from a little less than 4" yesterday. We should avg about 2-3 degrees colder tonight just eyeballing dewpoints and NAM/ECMWF output. My guess is the -4 record at Greenville is safe but not by much, the -4 in 85 was a COOP, not the AWOS at PGV.

All-Time Record Low Temperatures

LOCATION TEMP: MO/DY/YR
New Bern -4: 12/25/89 (KEWN ASOS)
Cape Hatteras 6: 1/21/85 (KHSE ASOS)
Greenville -4: 1/21/85 (COOP - Not KPGV AWOS)
Morehead City 1: 1/21/85 (COOP - Not KMRH ASOS)
Kinston -2: 1/21/85 (COOP - Not KISO AWOS)
Jacksonville -5: 12/25/89 (KNCA ASOS)

Record for Consecutive Days with Temperatures at or below Freezing

LOCATION Consecutive Days/YEAR
New Bern 4/Ending 1-23-1970 (KEWN ASOS)
Cape Hatteras 3/Ending 1-13-1981 (KHSE ASOS)
Greenville 5/Ending 1-5-1918 (COOP - Not KPGV AWOS)

Currently sitting at 14.6. Quite a bit colder tonight than I expected.

14 in CHA.. MRX blew the low tonight.. think they forecasted 22 initially yesterday.

The Ft. Pulaski SST near the mouth of the SAV river has now dropped to 41! That should be the bottom though their air temp. is currently only 32 after a low of 29.

It is 36.1 at my place (after a low of 26), meaning still another way below normal day that actually looks colder than yesterday! But this is the last of the really cold days making it 7 in a row. What an amazing 1st week of the year, one which I'll never forget as a repeat of something similar for any seven day period could easily be many years and quite possibly decades away unless the globe were to finally reverse and start a significant cooldown.

Here's a shocker, upper 30's and rain, i.e. a cold rain. Moisture chasing cold, gotta love it.

43 now, 48 was the high. Tonight will be the first non-freeze night in a long ass time. Should crack 50 finally tomorrow.

It’s quite windy out today so far. Mainly cloudy skies again, east wind at 12 G19. 56.7.

What do you mean? Isn't that just southerly/sw flow?

I just clicked it now at 1 AM, so it may have looked much different.

back when it was posted it was a SE to NW flow on the entire SE region radar; not something you see very often..

Hit 14.8 this morning. It was sunny at day break but now it’s cloudy and 24.4.

temp 8 degrees at my house, 12 at the airport.. should end up being the coldest night of the winter by a fair bit.

CHA airport down to 11. Coldest night of the winter officially now. 7.5 on my porch thermometer.

9 at the airport, 6 at my house... first official single digit temp since feb 2015.

Ended with about a little over 2 inches me thinks(including compaction). Gorgeous. Happy with this event.

Very windy & frigid this morning in B'ham with light flurries which caught me by surprise

was 34 and light rain when i woke up at 6:15, temp's at 33 now with big fat flakes falling at a pretty good rate, grass and sidewalks are covered and the roads look to be going downhill. I came into the office, but I doubt we stay open past lunch if this keeps up.

Snowfall total is around 2 inches here which brings me up to near 7 inches this season so far. We bottomed out to 14°F (which was a couple degrees colder than forecast) this morning with a wind chill of -3°F. It's currently 15°F and sunny outside with a wind chill of 0°F. This is a storm I'll definitely remember for years to come simply because of how cold it was, it's rare to see moderate snow falling with temps in the teens.

Man, temperature is really crawling today. It’s only 19 degrees at 1pm. NWS is predicting a high of 26, we’ll see...

I'm guessing we're at 3" where I'm at in south charlotte. About to head home where I'll likely have a tad more. Looks to be winding down on radar, barring any kind of backfill to our west

Ended with 1 1/2 inches at the house, takes my season total to 9 1/2 inches.

Just an amazing winter for snow and cold!

Sitting at 3 degrees for the second night in a row. Got down to 1 degree last night but Fluries and clouds brought the temp back up to 5 before I went to bed. Should go below freezing tonight with no clouds overhead.

10 degrees at the house, 15 at the airport.. I guess a jet engine blew by at the wrong time.. or something. Who knows what's up with that weather site. It's always 2-5 degrees warmer than every other thermometer in the city. Is this just typical for most NWS observation sites or some peculiar anomaly of UHI effect?
