We here in Alachua County are into the 1st week of SIP; stores can only have 1 customer per 1000 sq. feet of indoor space; all businesses are closed except "essential"; since Mass was cancelled for the duration, I went to Publix at 8:00 AM today; line around the store with folks at 6' intervals; sounds horrible ... except everyone was polite, calm, did their shopping, left, and each cart was sanitized before it went back inside ... not fun, but honestly, not bad given the potential alternatives ...

Honestly if it were me, i would order groceries online and have it delivered. Seems less stressful and safer

Kemp's reasoning for Georgia not shutting down entirely is "Because there's still tons of counties without it" when the reality is most Georgians live in infected counties. There are counties like Gilmer that have declared shelter in place that have 0 cases as well.

Have you even tried to order anything on line recently? I have a 30 day freeze dried food supply ordered for 'Cane season and it is back-ordered 6 weeks ... placed that food order in January before this ever hit the fan (as I do every year) ... supposed to now get it by May 1st when typically I would have had it by Valentine's Day ... smh ... then I ordered a box of toilet paper for my office - 120 rolls ... it was "shipped" and then cancelled ... damn good thing I don't have clients coming in right now ... bottom line - so long as Publix has it on the shelf, and if I need it, I'm going where I can get it ...

Didn't even think about this till now. Could you imagine if we were in hurricane season right NOW? Imagine the logistical madness of a cat 4/5 taking aim at you while this was spreading...

On second thought, maybe we shouldn't think about it... lol
 
113 additional cases and 1 death on top of the 121 cases from yesterday here in SC. The number is reaching triple digits daily. If we don’t go into lockdown here soon it’s going to get much much worse.
 
My wife was invited to join a nursing group on Facebook. They are putting out videos and testimonials as warnings from affected areas and let me tell you this.

Do not think this is no big deal because it isnt happening in our backyard yet. Some of the scenes coming out of NYC are just scary. It's a real bad deal they have going on up there and in other hot spots.

If there's a strong second wave this fall (as happened with Spanish flu in the fall of 1918), then we may get to witness such a thing.

? Well, lets hope and I mean really hope, pray, whatever you believe in that we can come up with at the very least, a successful treatment. And maybe even a vaccine. Thankfully, it is 2020 and not 1918. But there is still a lot to learn.

I consider myself a history dork, but somehow never read up on the Spanish Flu until a few weeks ago (I only knew about it from mentions in WW1 articles). Learning about the 2nd wave was...a very sobering eye opener.

I have doubts COVID-19's second wave would be as deadly as that one since it's not mutating as quickly, but I ain't no Dr Fauci so take that w/ a grain of salt.

Same here. I never realized just how bad it truly was until recently. It is indeed very sobering.

Let's hope you're right. Politics aside, I am very impressed with Dr. Fauci and Dr. Birx. I don't think we could ask for a better duo!

Little disappointed with Fauci being some what wishy washy this weekend.

On one hand we can lift stay at home orders in places but then he says its possible for 100k to 200k deaths. Sort of a mixed message. Add him saying it's like a bad flu it's a lot of mixed signals.

OK ... assume a SIP order is lifted and assuming you do not feel comfortable with it ... why not just stay at home a while longer? You (and I) are free to do so ... and I for one will, as will my staff, until I'm convinced they, my wife, and I are all safe to "normally" head back out ...

Because while some of us are good at doing what the right things seems to be so many others will not.

I can't argue with you, as you are correct. However, overall he has done a pretty good job with his interviews. And he's done multiple ones. I think he still wants us to prepare for the worst. Yes, he could word his words differently, but the man is probably mentally exhausted. Saying it's like a "bad flu" wasn't a good choice of words either. But a bad flu can be just as serious.

Absolutely! These stay at home orders are meant to "control" the spread as best they can because 100% containment is logistically impossible

It just goes to show you the many unknowns with this virus. One day you have reason to be encouraged, and then the next day you get some more sobering data..... NYC is in bad shape guys. My big questions are, how long will it take to get those big number of cases down here? Can we stop it with what we are doing? Why is the death rate so variable from one area to another? I would not want to be in Fauci's position for any amount of money. He can make predictions based on data, but it could be better or worse when it's all said and done. Getting a little bit nervous at some of the possible scenarios.

To be fair, that paper was published a month ago and was quite speculative in its wording. His language was much different in the congressional hearings over a week later, when he was saying the mortality rate was 10 times more than the flu. I don't think he's backed off too much on that recently.
