The local hospital network was down to 142 patients just prior to xmas. That was down from a peak of 187. Since then it has rocketed up to 225.
Just to clarify this is for the Vidant Health System, their system-wide census of hospitalized COVID-19 patients was 187, this covers 8 hospitals across eastern NC including Greenville, RR, Roanoke-Chowan area and the Outer Banks. It's not just the one hospital.

Yeah not all 225 are at one hospital luckily.

I find it somewhat ironic California has had the toughest lockdowns and restrictions and they are just as bad if not worse off than anywhere else that has less restrictions or has been reopened for months hmmmm

Consider this: California is the most populated state in the US, not to mention their cities are some of the largest. Population density compared to all the states that have fewer restrictions and lower populations do better not because of who's leading them, but because there's just less contact entirely and less spread. If they had the same restrictions as some of these other states I guarantee you they'd have 1000s die per day from covid alone.

So the Halifax County Health Dept today decides to set up at the Halifax Community College to provide vaccines. This wasn't well announced and somehow hundreds of general public did find out, showed up and got vaccinated even though it is suppose to be for those in group 1A (front line workers, elderly, underlying conditions). My 80 yo parents want the vaccine, haven't been given any info about the vaccine and yet today people who do not fit any of those criteria were vaccinated, the Health Dept Director should lose his job over this. Those that got the vaccine knowing they don't meet the criteria while the most vulnerable are still waiting just don't have a conscience in my opinion. I'm livid, there are a lot of people around here that are livid and now they are "opening up vaccines for the general public" tomorrow. One line for those in 1A category and another line for the general public, this is stupid! Btw, the article says how well the information got out with daily reports, radio communication and other reports.... that's BS! Many here didn't know about it until word started spreading on social media this afternoon that they saw it.

My 16 year old daughter has it. She caught it on NYE at her mom and stepdads. He can’t even walk to the bathroom without becoming winded and she is short of breath (her stepdad and mom). My daughter has no taste, cough, stuffiness, temp of 101.5°F, and a splitting headache. Breathing is fine for now.

Has anyone here recovered from Covid but still have issues with smell? I had Covid in September. Not a mild case. But hospitalization not required. One of my biggest symptoms at the time was not a loss of smell but that i smelled things that were not there. It would alternate between electrical burn to a strong soapy perfume. It would cause my nose and lips to burn. I had this symptom for weeks after I recovered. Have not experienced it in about 2 months.
Until today. It got so bad at work I had to go out side to try and get fresh air as I was getting sick from smell. I share an office and no one else smelled anything. I’ve read a few articles that others continue with phantom smells long after Covid recovery. Just curious if anyone else has this issue.
