Coronavirus (Stay on Topic)

If someone is worried about the virus, then by all means stay home and take the steps necessary to protect you and your family, but don't tell me / others how we need to live our lives.

By this point everyone in the US knows that covid is out there and there is enough data about who's at risk and who's not. Every time someone goes outside they are knowingly taking that risk. If someone doesn't want to take that risk, then they don't have to. However, if someone does, then let them.

Didn't we all learn that the only person you can control is yourself? So why are people still trying to control others? Big Daddy Government isn't going to keep you from getting sick, by telling me to stay home and not go into work.

This selfish rationale doesn’t make sense.

The population has to act collectively to slow this virus. This has nothing to do with government control, it’s called caring about others. If you don’t care about infecting others and killing them or their family members, then you’re not a good person.

Why are people so stupidly self righteous? You’re not going to think this way if your friend or family member dies from something that can be prevented.

The CDC released a study:
-55 people attended a rural wedding
-177 people got infected as a result
-7 hospitalizations
-7 deaths

NONE of the dead people attended the wedding.

MANY people, possibly people on this forum, will attend thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations and infect a loved one. That loved one will either be hospitalized and/or die. You want that guilt? Is it worth the pride? The virus doesn’t care about your “don’t tread on me” attitude, and you may find out that the hard way.

Now is not the time to take this stance. Covid is exploding in rural areas that once had largely escaped the high numbers in cities. We all need to come together, wear masks and say “no” to group functions indoors with food and drink, where mask wearing is nil. Times up.

The survival rate is MUCH higher than 96-98.5%... you're looking only at confirmed cases... you have to take into account the fact that there have been many (millions?) who contracted COVID and never knew they had it due to being asymptomatic. Last CDC estimate I read a month or so ago theorized survival rate, including asymptomatic cases, was 99.5% - 99.8%.

The problem is the hospitalization rate. If you get enough spread the healthcare system collapses killing many more collaterally.

Getting Spicy Jon. We need to start putting the ONUS of one getting sick, back on the individual, and not someone else. Telling someone when they can and can't leave their house is not going to protect YOU Jon. If you don't want to get sick, then stay home.

So i'll go a little deeper to get to your point. My dad has a condition where he's on immunosuppressants, and has heart problems. So yea, needless to say he's very high risk. I'm very upfront with him that my children attend pre-school in person and I go into the office 3 days a week. If he invites us over for a Family sunday meal, or he asks to come over to see the kids am I to tell him no for his sake? "No dad. I know you have accepted the risk and made this decision like the grown man you are, but really I know better than you do for you... So no"

This has nothing to do with Pride or a "Don't Tread on Me" attitude. People need to start taking more responsibility for themselves, and stop blaming others for getting them sick. I don't subscribe to the 'Collective Good'. This country was founded and thrived on the individual's liberties.

New York limiting to 10 person gatherings. Funny they don’t limit street celebrations to 10 people. Get ready for a big influx of New Yorkers into the Carolinas in the coming years. I think they’ve had about all they can take.
Get ready ? We have been living it for 50 years now . Sadly they vote overwhelmingly democrat based on the stats I have seen . If we are talking yankees give me some folks from PA but no NY or mass or any state in New England.

Bingo. Risk needs to be assessed on a individual basis when regarding who you gather with. If you or Grandma are worried about the low chance you have of giving them Covid, which has a reported 3-5% chance of killing them; don’t gather.

However if both of you understand the risk involved with Covid and neither one is worried, and also understand that Grandma might not be around next year(3-5% of death year over year from other causes in the 70-80 year old group from the numbers I’ve found) and don’t want to risk missing the possible last Christmas together by all means gather and enjoy the holidays.

The whole broad brushing game is silly.

vaccine around the corner it would do more damage to shutdown the economy over the holidays. If there was ever a time to do herd immunity it’s now or just wash hands and promote mask. Honestly doesn’t make sense to change the game plan right now yea could be getting worse but the answer doesn’t always have to be try something else...

We are founded and thrive on individual liberties and the pursuit of happiness, in so much that it does not harm others. As you are well aware I imagine, you cannot just decide that you are tired of wearing clothes while inside Walmart or would like to stop using public toilets and use the street instead. Individual liberties don't work like that. Those things affect others' ability to pursue happiness and liberty and so there are agreed upon societal boundaries. Just like you being irresponsible with your own germs, affects others, and therefore stops being about your specific liberties and happiness. Additionally, I think that you subscribe more to the "Collective Good" than you think, as I bet you drive on the correct side of the road, stop at red lights, and pay your taxes.

We need urgent prayer for Big Frosty (Rodney).

He and his wife both contracted COVID about a month ago and he cleared it after a brief hospitalization and was back at work. Unfortunately, the side effects came back last night with blood clots in the lung and pneumonia. He is hospitalized today but not in ICU.

Rodney asked that he will appreciate prayer from everyone for a quick recovery.

There is no one else that has a higher level of interest in winter weather and knows his local climatology the way Big Frosty does.

To all, thank you for taking the time to be prayer warriors. It is gratefully appreciated. Thank you.

Lol ok. I could sit here and pick apart this argument but I can tell it will fall on deaf ears... As a healthcare professional, I disagree — I would tell my dad no, but you won’t so I digress. Godspeed to your dad — I hope it’s all worth it. There’s families regretting their choices every day. But you’re right, it’s their choice...but it’s their choice to kill each other, not lead to secondary spreading which kills someone else.

How is this not the point I’m making and his is “Bingo”? That’s literally what I’m saying. Don’t be stupid and regret it, that’s all. Good luck to those who relax themselves around people months from a vaccine. Have fun. As a HCP, I’ll do my do diligence, that’s it.

I’m a huge fan of Big Frosty! I hope he recovers quickly. One of my oldest friends from the 2000’s back on the eastern days.

People simply don’t get it. It would be FANTASTIC if their actions only affected them and their family. But it doesn’t. You want to talk about blame??

Instead of VOTER ID I have another idea. Instead of the heart on drivers licenses it should be a Covid Symbol “DNR, do not resuscitate - this person has accepted responsibility for their condition” so healthcare providers know who to give the bed in the ICU to and who not to give it to.

Went by sup dogs tonight. Ranked the number one college bar in the country last year I believe. It was pretty packed and didnt see a lot of masks. Maybe 150 kids very little distancing and mask were few and far between.

Remember when you sneezed last week? You expelled a lot of pathogens. Same goes for when you yawned, touched the door, scratched your head, etc.... Every second of every day you are leaving behind bacteria and viruses. You can no more control to viruses and bacteria you leave behind than I can control that. But you know what you can control? You putting yourself in a situation where you can pickup those pathogens and introduce them to your system. (I will take a timeout to say I do not condone people with covid to go in public, thats just messed up). Again, you're putting the blame of you contracting covid on someone else. You left your house, and you knew the risks involved when you left. That is on you. But if you really want to punish people for leaving behind germs, then I got bad news for you.

Also, I drive on the right side of the road because the law states we have to. Gene Roddenberry called and wants his 'Needs of the many...' trope back.

Yep. Leaving people with the only option of not leaving their house in order to not contract a virus sounds just like a country brimming with the individual liberties you described earlier....

And I’m saying it’s not just a one sided “don’t be stupid” argument. Many people will likely infect loved ones and some will die. However many will separate from their older loved ones to keep them from the virus and their older loved ones will die before the next holiday of something else and they themselves will never have contracted the virus. What is your answer for their regret? “Well it sucks you missed your last Christmas with them, but hey you didn’t transmit Covid which you never contracted.”

This cut and dry argument is silly. It’s not one sided as people can suffer and have regret both ways.
