Also the POTUS can't do a national lockdown or a mask mandate. It's up to the states to order a lockdown or a mask mandate. https://www.npr.org/2020/04/02/8252...le-to-order-a-national-quarantine-experts-say
Indeed. What they could do is strongly recommend it, which would probably see lockdowns along partisan lines. NC then would most likely be going back under lockdown under the recently re-elected Cooper, unfortunately.

Folks dont get it. All you do with lockdowns is essentially kick the can down the road. Eitheir you get the vaccine or face up to contracting the virus. 99%+ of those who do catch the virus want even know they had it or recover. The original only reason for the lockdowns back in March was to not overrun the hospitals. Now here we are with certain govenors telling us to limit Thanksgiving guest.
I generally agree, though I guess a counterpoint now is that if the touted 90% vaccine is truly a few months out, it may be possible to kick the can long enough until we can vaccinate high risk groups. But though I have hopes for a vaccine, we’ll see, and I’m not sure the economy can handle another month-long lockdown. Or my sanity.

99.5-99.7% was the last estimate I heard. Of course it varies from basically 0 for the young and healthy to 5-10%+ for the old and unhealthy.
For the entirety of the virus in the U.S. it's been about 96%... treatments have improved and it's up to 98.5-99% now.

The survival rate is MUCH higher than 96-98.5%... you're looking only at confirmed cases... you have to take into account the fact that there have been many (millions?) who contracted COVID and never knew they had it due to being asymptomatic. Last CDC estimate I read a month or so ago theorized survival rate, including asymptomatic cases, was 99.5% - 99.8%.

But Trump should have done more! 200K dead and he should say their name!.

If someone is worried about the virus, then by all means stay home and take the steps necessary to protect you and your family, but don't tell me / others how we need to live our lives.

By this point everyone in the US knows that covid is out there and there is enough data about who's at risk and who's not. Every time someone goes outside they are knowingly taking that risk. If someone doesn't want to take that risk, then they don't have to. However, if someone does, then let them.

Didn't we all learn that the only person you can control is yourself? So why are people still trying to control others? Big Daddy Government isn't going to keep you from getting sick, by telling me to stay home and not go into work.

Indiana reports 6,591 new cases and 51 new deaths.
Minnesota reports 7,225 new cases and 39 new deaths.
Illinois reports 12,702 new cases and 48 new deaths.

As I expected after the election, medical exemptions are now a no-go with big corporations requiring all to wear a mask. Costco first in line to announce with more to come soon. Very soon.

Our lockdowns were weak sauce. We never actually locked down.
I support this not locking down again but that the original lockdowns were weak. We pulled down the economy without ever actually stopping the virus or slowing it. My dad and I said the same thing and we’re very conservative if we were going to shut down we should have really shutdown.

Yep. Should have just taken the bullet early and had several months where we could be a bit more free, but careful before a second wave. Now we're on our third wave from what I can tell and waiting on a vaccine because the people aren't responsible enough to stay safe.

GOOD! It was only an excuse for 99% of the people claiming it.

The flimsy little puny masks that most wear don’t inhibit breathing in literally anyone. Not even N95 or multiple layers — And if it does, it’s chronic COPD that’s so far into disease that the person has an oxygen tank in their nose anyway.
