Most likely.

I wouldn’t forego payroll tax unless you can be certain you will save it incase you have to pay it back. If all Americans who qualified never paid it back it would take a lot of funding from Social Security and Medicare...which will be challenged in the courts. So with all that said I wouldn’t get too excited. I think a deal is struck in Congress and this executive order is removed or challenged in court.
They will fund SS and medicare from general fund. SS and Med arent going to lose funding. Potus said he will make sure want have to pay it back if hes re elected. As far as a deal. You have one side who refuses to nudge , regardless of economic hardship on folks.

Yes this was mentioned after the time I posted that post, so it’s time sensitive. I found out, too, from follow up interviews they’ll take from the “general fund” aka increase the deficit. That would have been good to know during the presser.

Dems dropped to $2T from $3T, R’s stuck on $1T, I’m assuming the one side you’re mentioning that “won’t budge” is the R’s. This is relevant to Coronavirus so it should stay in this thread, hopefully, as this conversation is about a Coronavirus relief bill. (But if it’s not feel free to move)

I think the biggest issue between the two sides is where the funding goes. There’s a lot of websites that compare and contrast the funding allowance of both bills and it’s shocking to say the least. How much would a payroll tax holiday increase the deficit if forgiven? I’m not sure; but for a side that doesn’t seem comfortable increasing the deficit or helping the unemployed, it I’m not fully understanding the EO’s, as the republican measure was $200/mo federal assistance. This is all very strange.

I hope a deal is struck. We are in a once in a generation pandemic, we can afford another stimulus. Maybe they’ll finally negotiate a $2T bill that can help the families still out of work and first responders who have contracted Covid from their jobs. A payroll tax holiday helps people with work and is largely pointless, as during a global pandemic people with work typically save more.

Personally, I think it’s silly to cancel these sport seasons. These kids have almost zero risk of complications from COVID. Let them play in empty stadiums. Let the ones who want to play, play.
If they don’t try to play in the fall and push it to the spring then I believe it’s highly unlikely they’ll get a season in then either. This virus isn’t going away anytime soon. Either you go ahead with plans now or you just cancel until fall 2021.
