Coronavirus (Stay on Topic)

I agree but just from my observation, there were vastly larger numbers of individuals wearing mask prior to the mandate then there were in the first month or so, yet numbers continue to increase. I'm sure mask help, I just don't think it's be all end all.

Could it be that because of the lockdowns that even though less people wore masks exposures were still low?

I think a large part of the problem with masks is that a mask alone isn't enough. There are plenty of studies out there backed by science that show masks do reduce the spread of viruses, but that's not the whole picture.

Say someone is positive for covid, they don't know it because they are asymptomatic, but they are responsible and wear a mask when they go out anyway. How many times does that person touch their face a day? Try to go a whole day being conscious of how many times you touch your face, you'll be surprised how many times we all do it in a day, mostly subconsciously. Do they wash their hands or use sanitizer every time they handle the mask? If they wear a mask at the grocery store, but touch it to remove it while in their car, then touch it again to put it back on at their next stop, say the gas station, but don't sanitize their hands before they pump gas, well, they possibly just spread covid to the gas pump handle. Next person uses it and doesn't sanitize their hands after doing so, then touches their face subconsciously a short time later... You see where I'm going with this.

Also, do people change or wash (those that are washable) their mask frequently? If someone is asymptomatic for 2 weeks and wears the same disposable mask the entire 2 weeks, and continues to wear it after they have beat the virus, you can just imagine how filled with virus that mask is. Everything the mask touches, everything they touch after handling the mask, will get particles of the virus on it.

Masks DO help, but they aren't enough all by themselves. Being mindful and practicing good hygiene habits would go a long way towards helping to contain this virus, as well as other viruses.

Anyway, sorry for the ramble, just needed to vent a little, carry on!

Common sense says masks can prevent the spread of the virus. It’s not fool-proof, but wearing a mask does certainly help. This has been a commonly-accepted way of limiting exposure in other pandemics of the past.

3,908 new GA cases today. Slow burn continues
That’s our second highest day ever, having reached our highest so far last Friday.....hospitalizations though are becoming increasingly concerning, they have jumped significantly this week

Could be but as I recall, again from my own observations and post on this site, during the lockdowns many places that were open were packed. I recall comments on here that stated the lockdowns were pointless because nobody was abiding by it because "just went to local Lowe's and it was packed, they need to enforce the lockdown"....paraphrasing. In fact there were many comments about how you really couldn't tell we were in a lockdown because so many people were out and back then the vast majority were not wearing a mask. Just food for thought

Good points. There were certainly some stores that remained open that stayed packed. There were also many stores that remained closed. Restaurants had no indoor dining. Many now are at capacity allowed.

NC really went weak on the lockdowns and we never saw decreasing case counts before we started phase 1 and 2. Places where they did have major outbreaks and near total lockdowns like NOLA things improved quickly.

I think they would say he caused the wreck either way but I’m not 100%. People die in car accidents all the time with medical issues but they are still classified under a motor vehicle death.
With that logic all drunk driving accidents fatalities are death by alcohol. In most cases, cause of death could be attributed to respiratory failure and just simplify things.

By the end of July I see us passing IL and NJ in total cases putting us 5th or 6th worst hit state.

That things an hour long Lol.... can you give me a summary?

It is basically the person giving a summary of events during the whole COVID outbreak while making some points. I myself am not finished with it yet(I'm forty minutes in) and here's some of the main points brought up so far.

The Chinese government's mishandling of the origin of the outbreak and how by the time most countries enacted travel restrictions it was already too late.

How the media downplayed COVID-19 in the beginning of 2020, and how certain politicians such as Andrew Cuomo decided to focus on anti-Asian racism(he plays footage of him making a speech in a packed crowd in Chinatown)

How the lockdown policies can and have caused harm, bringing up how isolating people can worsen or create mental health issues, worsen the situation for those in abusive households, potentially stunt education and child social development. Also brings up how millions could be at risk for homelessness due to COVID related unemployment. How the virus could end up sparking a famine (He backs up every point he makes with news articles and he has posted a google document with sources in the description, along with a timestamp for certain points)

He also brings up inconsistencies with officials and media outlets about the usefulness of masks.

I don't agree with every point he makes but this is a creator I've followed for years and I honestly think it's a well-produced and researched video.

This is just nonsense. Yes Lowe’s and other places were doing business but it was obvious that we were in lockdown. But since the lockdowns lifted people have been more engaged in their regular routines, including travel and vacation. And of course restaurants and many other businesses were closed, etc, and are now open.

Glad to know my opinion is nonsense, nice talk...

This pandemic has basically showed how inconsistent the media can be.

January: If you are worried about Coronavirus you are contributing to anti-Asian racism.

Today: If you aren't worried you are part of the problem.

January: Trump is an idiot for imposing travel bans.

Today: Trump should have taken action sooner.

March: Healthy people shouldn't wear masks

Today: Everyone should wear a mask, but also let's not tell people that things such as having facial hair or reusing disposable masks could render them useless.

Can you really blame people for not being one hundred percent compliant with guidelines and attitudes when they were literally told the opposite not too long ago.

So as some of you know today is day 14 with still no results back from CVS. On Wednesday I went to a local DHEC site that was testing for free and was contracted out to a local health agency. I just got a call from them 2 days later and I’m officially COVID NEGATIVE.

Still no test results from CVS. Pathetic. Absolutely pathetic.
