I know a lot of people who think it's overblown, but I don't know but maybe one who thinks it's just a hoax. I'm always skeptical of things. This timing of this is peculiar. And I don't think it came out of a natural course of events in the natural world. And I do think there is great politicization of it on both sides of the aisle. And I do think there are reasons why certain data/information gets released in certain ways. One thing I'm certain of, we are not being told the total truth about this.
 
Right on cue, the following meme appears in my Facebook feed, posted by several "friends":

Oh I see that stuff. But here's the thing, if the amount of crazy on FB and TWTR was an actual representation of a large percentage of people in the real world, we would be totally and completely in a state of chaos.

I feel like sometimes, we give too much status to the loony people posting all day on social media. If as many people were as crazy as it seems, life would be much, much different.

I don’t know, things are kind of crazy!
 
Imagine how different our situation would be if the president took this seriously from day one. He could have framed this completely differently, but he chose from the outset to minimize the threat. Now we are the laughing stock of the world.

I wonder how different it would be if he, for instance, advocated wearing masks and for limited but target shutdowns.If he had simply led the way, many of the crazy loons would have followed, because every single one of them that I know follows the president in lock step.

Masks help but aren't 100% by any means. It's not like hey wear a mask and go do whatever the hell you want. The policies work in tandem.. you wear a mask to help reduce spread and try AND try and keep social distancing in place. It's not really that complex. Maybe I'm --------.. who knows.

I understand that certain masks don't filter out aerosolized particles, so if we're dealing with an aerosolized virus and the virus is present where you are wearing your mask, then you may still get it. But I'm not sure that is the case with Covid.

Also, I understand that people touch their mask and face. But if the primary mode of transmission is droplets in the air or on surfaces, and those that would spread droplets (the infected ones) are wearing a mask, then the chances of someone else contacting the virus via their hands and spreading it to their face would seem to go down substantially, because there would be so many fewer contaminating droplets.

Logically, masks make sense and seem like they would really help to slow the spread of a non-aerosolized virus. Even if it is aerosolized, they still seem like they would help.

Why am I wrong?

Some people simply don't like being asked to do things they don't normally do. Makes zero sense.

My cousin thinks its the elite trying to take down trump so they can continue eating children for adrenochrome or some crap (ironically has never lived in the US). I'm not even kidding... she 100% believes this. It's coming from those Qanon conspiracies. We are no longer friends on facebook because I kept asking her to research lizard people and how much cheese the moon is made of.

Does she really believe that nobody in the whole world who claims to have gotten the virus has actually gotten the virus? Or does she think it was released on purpose to take down Trump?

Problem is that cases were already surging. This entire argument requires a head in the sand approach. Did protest add to the cases.....absolutely.

Heres an article from June 26th so around the time the protest occured and some places were already seeing large spikes.
