So should states not seeing outbreaks ban travel from states that are?
No. Let the bigger cities do the sip. We all know chances are many more people have been exposed than the numbers say. If someone is scared then let them stay home till they are comfortable coming out. They can get food and groceries delivered. Let those that want to get on with some normalcy then let them.

We don't really know whether the US is the epicenter or not do we? Do we have more reported cases, yes, but also how many more tests have we done than other countries?

We are not the epicenter. I would guess the collection of European countries including Germany, France, Spain, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands would be considerd the epicenter.

Correct; the Schengen Area countries essentially operate as a unified polity under the regulatory direction of the European Commission in Brussels with unrestricted transit between each member nation, much as Americans can travel freely between US states.

Of course they started closing their borders to each other last month due to the pandemic, we'll see how long that lasts.

NY state has more cases than any other country in the world. The US has almost as many cases as France, Italy, Spain, and Germany combined. Our deaths continue to climb and will likely surpass all of Europe combined before it’s over. NY is the hardest hit area in the world and the US is by far the most infected. We are the epicenter.

The only reason the US is the epicenter is because of NY. Take away NY and we are far from the epicenter.

Take out NY and we still have 400k cases and 12k deaths. The statistical gymnastics are odd.
Thing is that’s confirmed cases. We all know there are many many more cases out there that are not even counted or even know they had it.

I was hoping that we'd somehow slip through without something like this happening in the area:

But besides this deal, for the second biggest metro area in the state, given that there is actually an ability to test a fair bit, cases still aren't really all that high to me.

Blanket statements such as we're the epicenter or we're worse than the rest of the world without statistical analysis to back them up are sheer nonsense.

Alaska has been removed from the United States Sq Km since it's almost as large as a combined Italy - UK Sq Km and skews the analysis.

we are now the country with the most deaths. You can’t just take away NY. other countries in Europe have hotspots too.

I get the point he's making - the Schengen Area should be treated as a single entity since they have (or had, until recently) unrestricted travel and commerce across their national borders, just as the US does with our states. Although I'd exclude the UK since they're no longer part of Schengen, thanks to Brexit.
