Two more from our daycare have tested positive; one teacher and one child. That makes us a "cluster", I believe.

Today featured the highest nationwide COVID-19 death toll in over a month. It’s after a long holiday weekend, though, so somewhat expected with the longer than normal weekend backlog. Still, the decline in deaths seems to be slowing towards more of a plateau now. We’ll see what tomorrow holds.

It’s time to start looking at deaths from all causes now. Are we at baseline of still above? If close to baseline, we need to fully open up and drop restrictions.

Not true. Deaths are still trending down. Look at Europe .

I’m talking about the US dude, Europe doesn’t celebrate the 4th. Deaths lag cases and they’re also trending down because we got better at treating it. Deaths will plateau and likely go back up, I already made a long post about it but I guess you missed it. I’ll find this post when they do though.

Looking into the data from AL tonight. Two things glare out at me. Firstly is the rise of cases in the two younger groups. The second is the lack of correlation to the younger groups infecting the older, with both of the older groups continuing to trend down. Based on that, unless the hospitals become overrun, it wouldn't surprise me to see deaths fall in AL over the coming weeks. The good news as well is the hospital/ICU ratio also continues to widen. I'm guessing the same is true of many of the southern states.

I don’t see any older groups trending down, I’m using the same website as you. They’re rising at a slower rate but the slope is obviously positive and not trending down.

Cumulative cases are going up and so are deaths in the older group. Cumulative Deaths haven’t plateaued yet and they must plateau before we start talking about deaths falling. The 7-day average death rate has plateaued at this point and has been since Memorial Day but would like to see those cumulative deaths in the elderly level out of you’re right.

By trending down I meant as far as percentage of the results. As time goes on you can see a flattening of both older age groups as the younger groups continue to spike. Those charts will never trend down number wise only flatten.

Atlanta is going to mandate masks later today.

Honestly wouldn't be surprised if Augusta is not far behind them. Then probably a week or so later, you'll see Georgia mandate masks.

Curious to see if NC breaks the 1000 hospitalization mark today. Vidant health systems has increased their daily number from 55 yesterday to 61 today.

If it’s coming I can see it happening within the next couple weeks as some schools start back August 3rd. Our county which hasn’t been hit nearly as bad as other metro counties is leaving masks optional on the bus and in buildings as of right now

I’m starting to really lose faith in the daily death count. Who leads the nation in daily deaths today so far? New Jersey with 71 deaths, they have only reported 93 cases today and have been really low daily positive tests for weeks.

It’s good money for the hospitals. Unfortunately we will never know what the true numbers are and will be.

Hi everyone please see below:
All,

Over the past 6 months we have seen a large increase in activity in the non weather related threads. We recognize as the board grows we will slowly transition from just a weather board to a community. With this transition we will be gaining new members with new interests and differing view points. With current global events these differing views and interests become magnified across the community as members express their thoughts, stances, and ideas. This has led us as staff to recognize the need for written guidelines for the board as a whole and independent within threads to ensure the overall climate of the board remains constructive and welcoming. With that being said we want to outline the following general rules:

#1 racist, sexist posts will be immediately deleted and you will be banned from the community
#2 using derogatory terms in posts will be immediately deleted, you will be banned from said thread for 72 hours for the first offense, 120 for the second, permanently for the 3rd.
#3 when you post statistics or something as a fact please cite your source, baseless facts will be subject to deletion.
#4 using the term snowflake, karen, maga to describe someone or a grouping of posters will be subject to deletion. Continual use will subject you to the thread suspensions in point 2.
#5 Drive by 1 liners with the purpose of getting a reaction will subject you to suspensions in point #2
#6 consistently posting the same subject matter over and over or outlandish posts will be deleted. If this continues after deletion you will be subject to suspensions in point #2 will follow.
#7 posts that aren't directly related to the thread will be removed. Obviously there is a lot of crossover at this time between Corona, politics, sports. Please make sure that your placing your post in the correct thread.

Please let me know if you have questions or concerns around any of the outlined points. Our goal isn't to silence you as members it's to make sure that we keep the community as a place folks want to visit as well as keeping the weather side of the board free from carry over issues.

Georgia reports 3,420 new cases and 23 new deaths. They report 274 new hospitalizations.

overall positivity rate up from 9.4 to 9.5%. Doesn’t sound like a lot but for one day to move the needle is substantial.

Good bye.

We really haven't seen the effect from the 4th of July holiday weekend yet. Anyone who became infected over the holiday weekend is just now beginning to show symptoms. They will be going to get tested in the next few days and with the high number of tests being conducted, the labs are getting over run and falling behind on getting the results back. So if you think the data you're seeing this week is from the holiday weekend... it's not. Those results will begin showing up in another 7-12 days.

Definitely. It'll be anywhere from between now and mid July people will show symptoms of covid from exposure on the 4th. It's only going to get worse until action is taken like closing gyms and bars and or mandating masks.

So, Virginia reports 27 deaths to North Carolina’s 9, and MA reports 30 deaths to Georgias 23. Georgia and N. Carolina has seen far, far more cases than the other two states. What is the deal? Is the south fudging the deaths low or claiming way too many positive tests or is the NE states fudging the deaths way high or not testing nearly enough?

This type of thing has been going on weeks. What actually can we believe?
