to be completely fair i am 30Funny how all your favorite winters are in the last 10 years. You must have a short memory.

there may be a loose correlation between warm Christmas and cold early-mid Jan with usual timing of pattern shifts loli will say this, my favorite winters ever were 13-14, 14-15 and 17-18 and those winters seemed dead in the water in raleigh through christmas (i know that early dec storm existed in 2017 but i remember that as doing food delivery in 33 and rain with occasional sleet haha)

The “this time will be different.” crowd will be battered and beaten by the time this winter is over
I wish I had known that Jan 2000 to Feb 04 was a generational run i would have appreciated it more. If it wasn't for that 09 storm it would be 22 years since I've seen more than 6 where I lived![]()
I have never been more seriously considering a major increase in latitude in my 38 years. For someone as obsessed with winter as I am (I went to school for 6 years due to this obsession for pete's sake), have worked in the field now for 17 years (counting said school years) to have only seen 8" of snow as my all-time storm record is beyond insanity. I love winter weather so much I made a career out of it and I am beyond miserable every year. I don't even like convection, a well known fact by everyone who knows me. Why I live in NC is beyond me.
You were in diapers the last time Atlanta had 6” in March 1983.I wish I had known that Jan 2000 to Feb 04 was a generational run i would have appreciated it more. If it wasn't for that 09 storm it would be 22 years since I've seen more than 6 where I lived
When was the one before that? You were in diapers the last time Atlanta had 6” in March 1983.
1940When was the one before that?
Here you go.Where's the we suck gif
Looks like 2026 will be their year1940
What you looking for? Lots of snow, or somewhere with a solid four seasons that are well defined? You want somewhere with tons of seasonal lag where winter drags on into spring? A quick warmup into spring? You like bitter cold ? Let me know I’ll help you find the place!![]()

It really was - you don’t realize the good ol days were the good ones until they are gone. That was a crazy heater.I wish I had known that Jan 2000 to Feb 04 was a generational run i would have appreciated it more. Winter is over bro.I'm going to assume we spent all our winter in February 2021 tbh
Maybe it is in FloridaWinter is over bro.
I’m keeping the top on the Jeep until it verifiesI do think it's kind of funny everyone is hyping prolonged warmth here... I ran the GFS earlier and there's not even multiple days above 65 until beyond 300 hours out and yet multiple mets have posted about it since yesterday
Like it won't be cold but to hit 60 here and there isn't anything newsworthy to me
Damn you mow earlyJust finished my first grass cut of spring.
Do I mow early or does spring start as soon as fall ends around hereDamn you mow early
Yeah, me too. I grew up in Winston-Salem in the 80's-90's and snow was a given in the winter. But I guess some hope might be is that the last time our 10yr running avg approached 3" we got the 2000-2010 run.

Based on some analysis I did earlier this year, the '44-'84 median at RDU was 5.4". The '84-'24 median is 1.7". We're well on our way if something doesn't change and there's no denying we've had a lot more paltry winters in the past 40 years than we did in the previous 40.When our 10yr running hits 1-2" range it's going to be really sad...if we go snowless the next 5 years our 10yr avg will drop well below 1". A snowless winter this year puts us at 10yr running low of all time...

My mom grew up in Durham back in the 40s and she said sometimes they would get so much snow the tobacco barns would collapse.Based on some analysis I did earlier this year, the '44-'84 median at RDU was 5.4". We were already on the edge between several inches and less than on inch one the map. When our 10yr running hits 1-2" range it's going to be really sad...if we go snowless the next 5 years our 10yr avg will drop well below 1". A snowless winter this year puts us at 10yr running low of all time...

Unless you move from Raleigh it's going to be very slim odds you see another 6" event and we won't ever see another 10"+ event in our lifetimes. At this rate you would have to move to Buffalo to see another 10" event.here's a depressing one for y'all. i just turned 22, if i live to 82 how many of those 60 winters have >1" at RDU
