Damn, that OFB is strong!
Tend to think river valley fog will be rather prevalent tomorrow morning after all this rain. Should make for a really nice sunrise above the fog opportunity in the mountains.
Due to an inverted trough, heavy showers are occurring in the area moving from off the ocean including here. Rain started just after 8AM.
Edit on 8/9: I ended up with ~1” on 8/8, almost all falling between 8AM and 10AM.

Is August really the worst month of the year?
Fog was impressive this morning especially on the NC side of the Smoky Mountains. Here was the view over time from Kuwohi (Clingmans Dome) looking towards Swain County.

Overall a pretty good first week of August for my area with some rain/clouds and NO 90s. Unfortunately, the next two weeks looks to be full summer mode will all above average temps. I really hope after that we'll start to see that late August hint of change.

I’m visiting my parents over in Greensboro this weekend and just heard the loudest lightning strike of my life while I was taking some stuff out of the car. The storms had seemingly passed and the sun was out when it happened. Literally almost scared the poop out of me, couldn’t have been more than a few hundred feet away I’d figure.

Just got mauled by a severe thunderstorm and it destroyed our lawn! Trash bins everywhere!

Sunny day today, after multiple rounds of storms each day the past couple of days. It's needed tho, because we are the only part of North Georgia still in drought.

We had 2.67 yesterday alone from a stalled storm, so we are getting closer to being out of it

6 days without rain here. The dry season may have already started. It usually starts sometime in August and lasts through November. Unless there's a tropical system of course. We're getting close to the time of year where Afternoon Thunderstorms diminish in coverage.

We had a ton of CG yesterday. Very loud storm with rainfall rates probably 3"/hr.
And the same goes for here as well. Downpour started just now.
aaand, we get avoided.

Ended up having a storm pass just to the north.

I look for the rest of this month to be a lot like 2007. The drought maps will be getting a lot more colorful again. All the way to D4 for some of us.
